Why did LA Times take down Mike Bresnahan's story?

As a "pure (naive)" basketball fan, I don't like it obviously. The Lakers could've got a solid player in the first round who they could either stash overseas until he blossoms, send to the Dev. league, or bring to camp and see if he can make a splash. Also, now the Draft is doubly boring to watch!!
still, putting my adult hat back on, I understand that running a team is a business, and that Buss needs to open his wallet this summer to retain this team. If the Lakers don't sign LO, Ariza and Brown after selling this draft pick, then I'll be annoyed. As of now, I understand the pick and won't gripe.

This might seal the deal on Ariza and Odom coming back... good move imo

New York Knicks officials are telling peers they have purchased the Lakers’ No. 29 pick.

The Knicks are planning to draft a point guard with their choice at No. 8, and sources say they’re targeting a big man at 29.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said on Wednesday the team hoped to sell its pick and use to money to help re-sign free agents Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza.

The NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers have sold the No. 29 pick in the first round of the NBA draft to the New York Knicks for $3 million, multiple sources told ESPN.com's Andy Katz.

MITCH!!!!!!(In Captain Kirk tone from Wrath of Khan)

What an idiotic move! Why did he have to go and broadcast his plans to the
world? That probably cost us the possibility of trading the pick for more than
just cash. We could've gotten another one of our annual 2nd round pick additions.

Now that the Lakers have traded the #29 pick, I hope either Sergio Lull or Darren Collison may be available at the Lakers's #42 pick. Mitch have said he wanted to keep the roster of 13, so the combo PG/SG Sergio Lull looks better, as he can stay in Europe for another year.

Real easy to rip someone else for saving $3 million, but if it was your money you wouldn't call it idiotic. They got 3 million and a second round pick for NO. 29 pick, what did you want David Lee?

Damn, $3 million for the second to last pick AND a future second rounder? Nice, Mitch.

I'm guessing we have to make the pick for them first and then the trade will officially happen right?

Would have been fun to watch us take a guy in the first round since it hasn't happened in two years, but this was necessary.

Nice job by Mitch to get cash back in return. And the fact that we got a 2nd rounder sweetens the deal a bit, although NY might be a good team by then making it a low one (hopefully they continue to suck right?).

Really...the news isn't reporting that we got a 2nd round pick & $3 million. I thought we just got the cash. What 2nd round pick did we get?

I'm not ripping somebody else for anything. I just didn't like the fact that Kupchak "announced" the fact that he was trying to
get rid of the pick. I could care less about that 1st round pick. It wouldn't have gotten us anything impressive anyway..Kupchak
needs to learn the art of "keeping it to yourself".

the pau gasol trade was pretty secretive to me...
and im sure had it been leaked out to anyone, the trade would not have gone down.
popovich's committee would never have let that happen. :man12:

I'm glad he was secretive about the Gasol trade. He needs to always be
that way. Jerry West NEVER made his intentions known.

^ I don't get why you're angry over Mitch, it's a done deal ... there's no going back on it. I don't see how it's affected now that it has just become public knowledge.

They got 3 million and a second round pick. What did you expect them to get? The $3 million is the most money possible per rules. What difference does it make if it he announced it or not? The fact he announced it may have gotten LA more. Yesterday it was reported they expected to get about 1 million or so for the pick. The fact he announced it may have gotten Denver and NY in a bidding war.
