Maryland's juniors will test NBA waters

Postby JSM on Wed Apr 19, 2006 6:59 pm

Real GM: DraftExpress - A source close to the situation informed DraftExpress today that two Maryland juniors, 6-5 guard DJ Strawberry and 6-9 power forward Ekene Ibekwe, will both be announcing soon that they are entering the NBA draft.

Both players are “testing the waters” at this point without hiring agents.

Even though neither is considered a great draft prospect after having very average seasons, both Strawberry and Ibekwe are juniors, meaning this move shouldn’t come as a huge shock considering they have their one “use it or lose it” draft card to burn.

I thought for a second that was Sean Singletary of Virigina. I think he's the next Chris Paul.

On the Maryland guys: Both a bums.

Both are marginal draft picks. Ekene Ibekwe actually is a late 2nd rounder for the 2007 draft, as he has improved some and has shown some raw scoring skills and athleticism. DJ Strawberry is intriguing because he's a 6'5" PG, but he has shown little consistency in passing and shooting the ball. Ibekwe is a better prospect, but both have their work cut out to even become drafted next year IMO.
