NBA Draft: Richard Roby

College: Colorado

Class: Sophomore

Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/pr ... erId=22187

Position: SG

Height: 6”6”

Weight: 195 lbs

Accolades: Gatorade (Mass.) Player of the Year (high school) (04), All-New England (high school) (04), Big 12 All-Freshman Team (05), Honorable Mention All-Big 12 (05), First Team All-Big 12 (06).

Scouting Report: A big time scoring two guard who is the Nugget’s Kenyon Martin’s half-brother.
Strengths: Very good scorer and shooter – good mechanics. Good rebounding numbers for an off guard. Long arms gets him lots of steals. Can get real hot from behind the arc – he has had two games where he has knocked down 7 threes and 2 where he has knocked down 6.

Weaknesses: Very thin – needs to add weight and strength to be an effective pro. May only really be 6’5” – will be undersized to play the wing in the NBA. Not an off the chart athlete. Inconsistent shooter – shoots for a low percentage. Still very inexperienced having only played two years in college.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Mid first round to early second round pick.

Consensus: Roby needs at least another year in college to develop his body and his game. His shooting and scoring touch will get him into the pros eventually, but he needs more seasoning first.

Dime Magazine has the Lakers drafting Roby. What do you think of him?

26th pick:
Behind Redick, Roby was arguably the best shooter in college basketball last year, and the Lakers could definitely use someone who can knock down shots. Plus, at 6-6, Roby handles the ball and passes well enough to maybe even play the point in the triangle.

im torn on Roby. i go to Colorado so i got a chance to see him play this year. he's a good shooter and can create a shot off the dribble. he also is pretty good at getting steals.

the tough part about Roby is that CU really just didnt have many offensive threats last year, and the offense they ran was terrible. so there would be stretches where defenses could shut down Roby because no one else could do anything. so put in a situation with other scorers where he's a 3rd, 4th, or even 5th option, he could probably do alright. when the guy gets open looks he's good.
