Ricky Rubio's deadline passed

So the Register reported that Ricky Rubio's deadline for signing with Minny has come and passed.
So what happens next, would he become a free agent? Any chance the Lakers can sign him?

I'd offer picks, and any these players- Blake, Walton, Ebanks, Caracter, Brown. I like his game a lot.
