This is a problem with most of the All-star weekend events on Saturday. They often have potential to be interesting but they end before that is possible. The Dunk contest has always been the exception, being the main event and all, but they managed to scoop it again this year and even though there were some great dunks, I honestly barely remember any of them at this point it happened so quick, and I just watched the dang thing!
I am not about to say the idea of having an All-star week makes sense, and I know All-star weekend events are fairly meaningless, but they really need to spend some more time on these things. As it sits, it's basically all marketing sizzle and no NBA steak.
Shooting Stars is a fun concept but it is just a half court shootout in disguise, how about something that actually gives you a reason to care about the WNBA player participating(since it is some of the only visibility they get on a national event)
Skills challenge is a good idea too, the relay format was an improvement but half the players still don't care and the event happens way too quickly. There should be a 4-man foot race at some point during the skills challenge. that's the type of thing people want to see when debating young athletic guards.
Three point shooting is always fun but this year's participants all seemed gassed or something. They all seemed to be running out of time and even with the addition of the money ball rack scores were pretty low. They keep trying to push/force this team aspect to everything why not have a player pass the ball instead of taking balls off the rack?
Dunk contest... see above post.
