My plan was to go to the list of the greatest 50 NBA players and select one at random (using the random number generator).

Ok that works for me.

Re: Draft Your All-Time Great Team! Kareem Goes #4!

Postby MusixFinest on Fri Jun 13, 2014 5:09 am

I must first qualify this pick by saying I bleed Purple and Gold along with the rest of you. But with the 5th pick, I choose a prime Larry "Legend" from 1985-86. The Great White Hope put up 26 pts., 10 rbds., 7 asts., shooting 50% (2 pt.), 42% (3 pt.) and 90% (FT), in an MVP season. Damn near avgd. a triple-double in the Finals that same year, earning him the Finals MVP. Team player. Played the game the right way (relied on fundamentals, as opposed to athleticism). Ultimate competitor. It's a shame that back injuries robbed him of a possibly greater career and greater acclaim.

I figure with all our teams' talent levels being fairly equal, you gotta have someone on your team that will rise up in the biggest moments and close out games for you. And at 6-9, he is an unstoppable offensive weapon from the SF position. He's old-school KD.

Bleeding Purple and Gold doesn't (necessarily) means being blind. It is a fact "those guys" are one of the two best franchises in NBA history (they're the second best, though :man1: ), and of course, that means there've been many great players who've worn green jerseys. Larry Bird happens to be one of them. He was an excellent player, definitely one of the All-Time Greats.

^ I'm surprised no one has taken him yet. Not to mention Magic who came close to the same feat. Kobe is still on the board. West and Baylor are out there.

I considered the other triple-double players--O, Magic, LeBron--but none was as good a shooter as Bird.

Yeah you really can't go wrong with your Round 1 pick. You're going to get one of the best 8 players of all time. No hate here, just pointing out some other really great players.

Bird was by far the better shooter of the 4 guys we're debating, but Kobe was by far the better scorer. Magic the best passer and LeBron the best athlete with shades of all 3. Fun little discussion to be had there I'm sure. :man10:

No shame in a Bird pick. He and Magic dominated the league for a decade when the league was the strongest in its history.

With the #5 1/2 pick Barnstable selects Smush Parker 2006. This is the season Smush's legend was born as he played all 82 games and distinguished himself as the owner of the Smushcalade.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Battle Tested has been on the clock now since 3 o'clock yesterday? Is that right?

It looks like Bird was selected just after 5 am, which still means that the time limit is up...

Where you at Battle Tested?

It's 20 minutes past your 9 hour draft window. :fridge:

So he randomly gets a player from the top 50 all time list. As soon as that's done I'll make my pick and we can keep moving.

Battle Tested comes up randomly with...

Elvin Hayes! Hall of Fame big man, fantastic rebounder, and Champion with the bullets in 1978.

Not bad. He could have done much worse on that 50 list.

They really should update that list.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have taken Hayes, at least he's a guy that would've probably ended up in one of the 8 teams. There are guys in that list that will probably not make any team.

Ok, with my first pick I select the greatest point guard of all time, Magic Johnson from the 88/89 season. Many point guards can make passes that the no one can stop but Magic made the pass no one even saw coming. I'm excited to have him running my squad.

Well, Mr.Bryant already fall all the way to 13th in the 1996 draft, but I won't be letting the guy go into the 2nd round of this draft.

I'm gladly taking Kobe Bryant (2006). Doesn't have the Playoffs accolades, but who would with Smush Parker, Luke Walton and Kwame Brown in your starting lineup. First active player to make a team. I'm confident that he'd win a title by only having for NBA players next to him in the starting lineup. Sadly, he didn't even get that.

Still pondering about my second player. Stay tuned :man1:
