Why is Bynum waiting til September for this surgery? Is there some medical reason stopping him from doing it now?

The doctor who does the operation is probably booked full and can't see him until September.

Drew Will Reportedly Have Non-Invasive Knee Procedure

Drew Will Reportedly Have Non-Invasive Knee Procedure

Image

By John Mitchell

New Sixers center Andrew Bynum will head to Germany in early September to have the same experimental procedure on his knee that Kobe Bryant, Grant Hill and Alex Rodriguez have undergone, according to a West Coast source with knowledge of the situation.

Bynum has had surgery on both of his knees. It is unknown whether the procedure will be performed on the one knee or both. According to the source, Bynum’s knees are fine and the procedure is non- surgical.

The procedure, known as Orthokine/Regenokine, will be performed by Dr. Peter Wehling. Bryant initially underwent the procedure to prevent the inevitable wearing down of his knee cartilage. The procedure is a derivation of platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP. The procedure, which is not yet performed in the United States, is less invasive than many, if not all, other forms of knee surgeries presently used.

Bynum dislocated his left knee cap in the January of the 2007-08 season and in May of that season Bynum underwent arthroscopic surgery on the knee. He also underwent surgery on his right knee following the 2009-10 season.

His recovery from that surgery took longer than expected and, as a result, Bynum only appeared in 54 games in the 2010-11 season.

Oh man... sounds kind of like a Shaq situation. I'll wait for more details though.

Shaq situation?

Bynum's not having invasive surgery. I doubt he misses training camp.

I think he meant delaying it like Shaq did to not ruin his time off.

Bynum told reporters in his exit interview that he wasn't having the operation until September. This has been planned for awhile now.

I know this is almost goes without saying, but DAYUM is Drew big. You don't fully appreciate it until you see him walking out in public with normal sized people.

Imagine Shaq when he got really fat during his time with the Lakers. He must have weighed close to 400 lbs, although he was listed at 350.

Not surprising. Drew wore #33 in HS.

Wouldn't be shocked if Drew averaged 25/12. Will definitely be rooting for him accept when he plays us. :man12:

25/12 is possible but I'm thinking more 22/13. I also expect him to need some adjustment period because of the extra attention he gets now. But he sure has the softest touch I have seen for a bigman. Basically never misses around the rim, makes even the most acrobatic alleyoop layups etc.

He has a bright future. Dwight unfortunetly was just a better fit. He is D first in mind and the Lakers were really slow and unathletic. He sure is the type of bigman for Nash...like Amare, I expect him to get a lot of open dunks.

Does anyone know if Drew's press conference will be televised?

I really am interested in what he has to say. I really hope there is no animosity between Drew and the Lakers. He had alot of success with us. He became an All Star in L.A. and won multiple titles. He was a Laker for nearly the same amount as Shaq was.
