Houston is finalizing a deal to send Omer Asik to New Orleans, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

And so the cap clearing scramble begins for Houston.

Clearing out cap space, obtaining easy to move parts.

I still have faith that Dwight will be their downfall.

A Jeremy Lin trade, I'm told, won't likely happen unless one of big-time free agents commits. But as I've reported, they have deals teed up.

I'm curious to see who is taking Lin...

Houston better be offering first round picks in that Lin deal....

ALso if it happens, then Melo or LeBron will sign with Houston, and whichever player is left over, the Rockets will S&T for them using James Harden....WOW. LeBron, Melo and Dwight? Holy Moly.

^ If they get Melo and Bron, Parsons is the odd man out. If they're THAT convinced they can get them both, they might have to package Parsons with Lin. Warriors are already interested in such a deal.

yeah, moving asik for very little return is easy (think about what the fans and media said asik would fetch in trade this time last year...whoops!), but lin is trickier. i'll be shocked if someone doesn't require an asset or two in exchange for overpaying a backup pg by about 11 million next year.

I also don't see why ny or Miami agrees to harden in a s&t, especially Miami--why keep your team maxed out while making it significantly worse? why help LeBron leave? I think this is the typical Houston pipe dream. I'm also not entirely sure why they want melo so badly. they already have a scorer who plays no defense and uses a lot of possessions. they're better off using the cleared space and any leftover assets to sign a legit nba pf and keeping parsons, imo.

The Pelicans interior defense is going to be ridiculous. I think Asik and Davis will compliment each other. Davis is an excellent pick and roll defender, and team defender, and Asik will be able to play tough man to man on the bigger players.

I think the Pelicans might have to move some players around though for offensive reasons. Gordon is always injured and useless. Jrue and Tyreke both need the ball, and don't shoot well. They should've made a push for Afflalo. He would've been a great fit offensively and defensively alongside Jrue.

^ Great interior defense that they'll need to create fast break opportunities because neither Davis or Asik are reliable half court scorers just yet. Not enough shooting.

They've got a lot of good inside pieces though. Package Gordon with Ryan Anderson and get better.

I think Anthony Davis is a reliable scorer, who can also shoot the ball. He just turned 21 too.

The trio of Ryan Anderson, Anthony Davis, and Omer Asik is pretty awesome. I don't like their guards though.

^ Ryan Anderson is a better fit starting as a stretch PF than off the bench for them.

He's a good piece to upgrade their perimeter.

Houston needs a PG, assuming Melo goes there, Rockets turn into legitimate title contenders.

PG-Harden-Parsons-Melo-Howard

Jones and Bev being the first two off the bench.

Defense will be the fall of this team in this scenario, prolly in the CF's.
