I mean even if he's been a scrub in the last two playoffs, a minimum contract for insurance purposes wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Still, I would rather give Ebanks a shot ... I'd be concerned he'd gripe over playing time if Ebanks took his spot in the rotation.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

Meeks / Barnes / Ebanks / Jamison / Hill

2nd unit. :jam2:

(Anything to kick Blake out of the lineup)

Vet Min? He's better than several players on our roster...Morris, Goudelock, Ebanks at least.

depends on how much the staff believes in ebanks, i guess. seems like barnes is a risk in that he gets pretty pouty when he's not getting regular pt. so while he's probably better (basketball-wise) than a lot of 15th man options right now, that doesn't mean it's the right choice.

I was going to say...can't Barnes play back-up to Kobe really well?

would rather give ebanks/youth a shot. barnes may be the better player right now (marginally) but we'll never know what ebanks could potentially bring to the table if we keep him hidden on the bench for another year

exactly. Yes, I believe that Barnes is better overall but the way Matt has played in the playoffs the last 2 years and even some of that isn't his fault (ankle injury) its time was give Ebanks that backup SF role and see what he can do. In a perfect world we do bring Matt back for the vet's minimum and he doesn't have a problem just sitting on the bench while Ebanks gets most if not all of the backup minutes.

Overall, if I had to bet on whether or not he is back with us I would say no.

A healthy Barnes would kill it on the court with Nash

It would be great to have him back. Matt is proven veteran depth and is a high motor hustle player that would be a significant improvement on Ebanks.

Either of Morris and Glock should be waived.

I agree with the give Ebanks a shot idea, except that Ebanks shot 16% from 3 last season. Matt is not lights out from 3 either, but he's about twice as accurate. Plus I agree with Puffy on wanting to see Matt's cuts with Nash delivering the ball.

Sure, why not. He's better then the youngsters, and he is also better then players like Blake and Duhon. Yes, he'll get hurt before the playoffs, but for the minimum... he would be nice to have.

No on Barnes. It's time we moved on.

He's not a good shooter from deep or the wing and even when healthy he wasn't always effective. He's one of the streakiest players I've seen. The effort was always there, but production wasn't. Ebanks may not be a 3 point shooter, but not everyone needs to be. I don't understand people holding that against him when many people here wanted Grant Hill and he's a terrible 3 point shooter.

Ebanks can fill a very similar role as Hill and can be effective. He's younger than Matt, more athletic, and while he doesn't have a mean streak he definitely can be a spark. It's his turn. If Matt wants to come back as insurance, that's fine. But I don't want to see him getting minutes over Ebanks or Meeks.

I would gladly bring Matt back for the minimum. Another defensive minded wing that can defend. Can't hurt to have another tough nosed, hustle player. I do agree we should showcase Ebanks, but he is too much of a crapshoot IMO. Let's not forget the Nash effect too.

No. His policeman stalker might accidentally shoot Dwight by mistake.

I wouldn't mind having Barnes on board again as you can't have too many capable reserves when healthy. THE big problem I can surmise is that he will have an attitude if he doesn't play. Last season, Barnes aired his displeasure for not having time when Ebanks started.

Larry Coon @LarryCoon 2h
My sense is LA won't re-sign. RT @JaySway52: any word what teams Matt Barnes is talking to? Heard on TMZ he is still talking to the Lakers.

Maybe for vet min if we didn't have to pay Duhon and Clark

the defensive rep Barnes gets is kinda overrated IMO, he still gets lite up and doesn't really stay in front of his man much, he's good for being a goon and taking stupid hard fools
