Nuggets Reject Brandon Roy and 1st Round Pick, Offer For Timofey Mozgov

By Adrian Wojnarowski

The Denver Nuggets rejected an offer of Brandon Roy and a first round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Timofey Mozgov, according to sources.

The Nuggets are motivated to trade Mozgov, who will be a restricted free agent this offseason and is unlikely to be retained.

Minnesota wants to include Roy in a trade because he is not expected to play again and his 13-14 contract is non-guaranteed.

Seriously one of the dumbest signings by Minny... But a weird rejection from Denver. Yes you've got Brandon Roy on your salary now, but at least you get a pick back for Mozgov. Is he worth a whole lot more than a 1st round pick?

The Minnesota Timberwolves are formalizing the release of Brandon Roy, ridding themselves of the $5.3 million owed him in the 2013-14 season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

An announcement is expected in the near future.

After seven career knee surgeries for Roy, this is likely the end of a career once destined for greatness.

Roy's two-year contract allows for the franchise to cut him if his chronically injured knees are no longer playable. Roy played five games for the Wolves this season.

Minnesota's new general manager, Flip Saunders, inherited Roy from his predecessor, David Kahn. One of the final downfalls of Kahn's failed run as GM was the two-year, $10.4 million deal with Roy. Minnesota guaranteed Roy his $5.1 million salary in the 2012-13 season, despite little examination of his troubled knees, sources said.

Roy, 28, started the T'wolves' first five games of the 2012-13 season, but never recovered from a mid-November knee procedure. Roy was the 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year with the Portland Trail Blazers and a three-time All-Star.

Knee injuries with Portland eventually led the franchise to use the league's amnesty clause to remove the balance of his near-max contract in 2011.

What a disappointing situation....damn. Feel real bad for the dude.

He has no cartilage in the knees. Until he seeks the proper treatment to grow it back, he won't play again.

I can't believe people wanted the Lakers to sign him this offseason, which I was strongly against, "low risk high reward!". More like pointless signing, waste of a roster spot and money! The guy played 5 games, just retire man, it's sad, but that's reality.

Agreed. Although at the time I was fine with giving him a minimum level contract. Anything more than that I thought was a mistake and of course we were right.

He might have been more helpful than Ebanks retrospectively. :man10:

Well, if that's what it is then Roy's career is over.

Has he talked to Kobe about the Orthokine procedure?

Probably a slim chance, but it's very uninvasive.

He tried PRP last offseason. It didn't work.

He needs to try IAGH or something similar. This approach actually does grow back cartilage by stimulating your own stem cells using growth hormone injections into the knee cap.
