The Denver Nuggets have agreed to hire Brian Shaw as their head coach, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.

Shaw will replace George Karl, the NBA's reigning Coach of the Year who led the Nuggets to a 57-win regular season but was fired following Denver's opening-round elimination in the playoffs.

The Denver Post reported earlier Monday that the Nuggets agreed to hire Shaw, one of the more coveted coaching candidates this offseason.

Citing a league source, the Post reported that the Nuggets chose Shaw over former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, who was Denver's other top candidate.

Shaw, 47, has never held a head coaching position in the NBA. After six seasons as an assistant to Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers, Shaw spent the past two seasons as an associate head coach with the Indiana Pacers.

I think this is a good fit. I'm glad that he didn't settle for some awful team like the Bobcats.

Glad he's finally getting his shot this time around after wasting his time talking to the Nets and Clippers.

Good luck B-Shaw...unless they're playing the Lakers.

So much for not hiring Shaw in LA because we wanted to erase all elements of the triangle. :man11: I wish Shaw luck, he was always one of my favorite Lakers, I hope he's successful, just not against us. :mhihi:

The Triangle has only been successful at this level with Phil.... others have tried it and variations of it and it's not worked out so well.

It does make it work a lot better when you have the player of a generation on your side.....

Shaw is smart not to force it on a team not built for it.... Some aren't that smart....

Word is Brian Shaw looking at Bernie Bickerstaff, Jim Boylan and Tyronn Lue as potential assistants....may look at Alvin Gentry as well

Stay away from Gentry he's one of our only hopes for D'Antoni's demise. :man10:

Ticks me off a bit. Should be coaching the purple & gold.

^^ Just what I was thinking! Best of luck to B. Shaw. He's got his opportunity at last, and he deserves it. We may have missed out on a great chance to pick up a budding coaching talent. I agree with others that he's probably doing the smart thing with not implementing the triangle with that group of players on Denver. Ironic that Shaw actually has turned out much more flexible than either of our last coaching hires, Brown and D' Antoni. Jim Buss was worried that he'd only be dead set on running Phil's system.

I can't believe we are still stuck with D' Antoni right now. :bang:

A head coach trade would be swell. Give us Shaw, take D'Antoni. MDA's "fast paced offense" principles would fit much better in Denver.

Good for Brian. I'm glad he got a job. About time. He's in a good situation, too. Denver is a decent team. I think he'll do well there...

I am just glad he finally got his chance. He has been due for a head coaching job for a few years. Nuggets are a good team too, so it isn't like he is coaching the Wizards or something.

Excellent hire. The Nuggets will finally get out of the first round and Shaw will expose KARL for the overrated coach that he truly is. I can't wait to see B Shaw run the show...and he will surely START McGee and play the right guys...he also won't go with that stupid 2 guard lineup of miller/lawson in crunch time. Maybe he'll help Gallo out too and make him play like Paul George?
