Raptors Expected To Pursue Carl Landry

The Toronto Raptors are expected to pursue Carl Landry this offseason if he opts out of his contract with the Golden State Warriors, according to a source.

The Raptors will seek a veteran power forward this summer.

Amir Johnson has had a breakout season for Toronto at the power forward position and are also looking for a resolution to the Andrea Bargnani situation.

They've got now Valenciunas, Amir Johnson, Andrea Bargnani, and Aaron Gray. Unless they're going to unload Johnson and/or Bargnani I just don't see why they should add Landry.

Carl Landry Expected To Opt Out, Test Free Agency

OAKLAND -- Warriors forward Carl Landry is leaning toward opting out of the final year of his contract with Golden State and pursuing free agency, according to his agent.

"He's worth a lot more than the contract he has and the direction (we're moving) toward is him opting out," said his agent, Mark Bartelstein. "Things can change, but that's where it's leaning."

Landry signed a two-year, $8 million contract last summer with the second year as a player option. He has until Wednesday, the day before the NBA Draft, to decide whether to opt in to the remaining $4 million or choose to become a free agent. He is not expected to inform the Warriors until close to the deadline.

"(The Warriors) knew it was essentially a one-year deal when he signed," Bartelstein said. "They got him at below market value."

Warriors general manager Bob Myers agreed.

"We didn't think we'd get Landry on the number that we did," he said Wednesday.

Bartelstein, who also represents David Lee and Brandon Rush, said he has not had any discussion with Myers about Landry's situation, but plans to in the coming days.

If Landry opts out, it doesn't completely slam the door on his return to the team. Like Jarrett Jack, whose contract expires on June 30, Landry would still have the option to re-sign with the Warriors -- and that's not out of the question.

"The plan is we'll look at everything with Carl," Bartelstein said. "He loved playing for the Warriors. He called it 'the most fun he's ever had in the NBA' so we'll see look at everything."

Landry averaged 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in 81 regular season games.

Would he give up a more prominent role with Golden State for a lesser one with the Clippers? Griffin gets the lion's share of the minutes at the 4 while he basically splits time with Lee up in the Bay Area.
No siggie...

Are you serious? That's all we need, for them to get another talented player that usually tears us apart and destroys us on the boards with his hustle. How the hell do the Clippers have the money to sign whoever they want with all the quality players they already have?

Would finally give them a reliable midrange shooter at the 4 which is Floppers biggest offensive pb for a while ... a Landry-Griffin in the paint can't get it done defensively though ... it's going to be interesting to see if Ginger improves on this side off the ball with Rivers

How much help does CP3 need?

In all seriousness... I don't mind the Lakers passing on all these guys. They're looking for long term contracts, and Carl Landry is not the type of guy you want screw up your cap flexibility for.

The Clippers have had a great off season, and it will be interesting to see how their season plays out.
