NEW YORK — Boston's midtown matchup with the New York Knicks was a testy affair during - and apparently after - the Celtics' 102-96 win.

Several reports shortly after the game indicated that Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony charged towards the Celtics locker room before being restrained by teammates.

There was also another confrontation near the Celtics team bus where Anthony was nearby, waiting for Garnett.

A shouting match ensued, with police and security staying in between the players before things escalated any further. Knicks coach Mike Woodson eventually came on the scene to try and calm his star player and get him away from the area.

You can bet that Anthony will get a call from league security regarding the incidents of Monday night, with a potential punishment of some sort - maybe even a suspension - will be handed out.

Anthony's post-game tirade seemed to take some of the events near the end of the game to another level.

Throughout the game - but particularly in the second half - Anthony had a number of verbal exchanges with C's big man Kevin Garnett.

It got to the point where both were whistled for a double technical foul by official Tony Brothers.

Even after the double technical, it was clear that the verbal tit-for-tat was still alive in well as both players could be seen frequently still tossing verbal barbs at one another.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers had little to say when asked about Anthony approaching his team's locker room after the Celtics win which extended Boston's winning streak to three in a row.

"I'm going to let y'all figure that one out. I'm going to stay out of that. If it was the playoffs I'd tell on him," quipped Rivers. "But since it's not I'm just going to be quiet."

Garnett chalked it up to just a couple of players trying to do what they can to help their respective teams be successful in a tightly contested game.

"Heat of battle, guys go back and fourth," Garnett said. "He's trying to get his team to go, I'm trying to get my team to go. Both teams are colliding; not to mention it's the Knicks and the Celtics. That's just what it is."

Rivers also downplayed the incident.

"The game just got heated. It's basketball," Rivers said. "There's nothing wrong with getting heated. It happens. It's a fun game, it's competitive. It's rough at times and that's good. I think all that's good. It should never carry over past that. I had my moments as a player as well. It does happen but you don't want it to; and whenever it does, you feel terrible later.

Rivers added, "This is the way the game should be played to me. It should be competitive, hard game."

I actually like KG too. I've always been a fan of his game, and I don't really mind his "antics".. I think they are fun, most of the time. He brings it every game and like Kobe has found ways to be very productive as years and years pass.

I would agree, but Garnett takes it too far too often. I liked him more when he wasn't a Celtic and I'm sure a lot of that had to do with less exposure to him, but it's the truth.

I think the Celtics locker room encourages his behavior to the point where he acts foolish too often. I could understand passion, but what he does is stupid these days.

I didn't see anything dirty in that video by the way...

Celtics are a bunch of fake tough guys ... we all know KG doesn't want it with anyone bigger than the euro PGs he's messing with ... Peeler punked him good when he was playing with the Kings .

I saw the highlights on another site ... that wasn't the dirty play -- they were both going for a rebound and Garnett elbowed Carmelo high up his back (near his neck) if I remember right and then Melo retaliated.

Carmelo Anthony - F - Knicks
Carmelo Anthony Tuesday said he's "at an understanding" with Kevin Garnett right now.
Garnett reportedly made some inflammatory comments regarding Anthony's wife during Monday night's game. Anthony became enraged, trying to get into the Celtics' locker room and waiting for him at the team bus. Things appear to have cooled off now following a telephone conversation. "There are certain things you just don't say to men, another man, so I felt that he crossed the line," Anthony said. The Knicks have not heard anything from the NBA regarding a possible suspension.

KG is a fake tough guy. Didn't Melo punch out some guy during a game a year or two ago?

Well at least KG is picking on SF's now, that's a big step up from tiny PG's. I don't know who started this, or what KG might have said to anger Melo, but it's KG, nothing would surprise me as nothing is off limits to him.

KG said something about Melo's wife?

That's going too far. And if that's true, I'm surprised Melo didn't knock his a** out right there on the court.

Melo only hits people that are being held onto by the Refs or their teammates......

Don't forget that he waited for Nate to be held by 3 players and a Ref before punching him and running like a little girl........ and Garnet is the "fake tough guy"...... :man10:

Melo didn't punch Nate, he punched Jared Jeffries but yes he did run away :man10: as for Kg, I would dislike him even if he was a Laker, a truly dispicable player who as evident by this melo wife comment along with Villenueva cancer comment shows that there no line he wont cross.

-correction he punched Marty Collins

He hasn't waited until an opponent was being held and punched him..... then when it came time to really fight then run away..... that's a line he isn't willing to cross.... :man10: :man10:

I don't care for KG one bit either but I'd take one of him at age 50 over ten "prime" Melos on my team.....

^ I understand the point you are trying to make, but really?

A 50 year old KG over Melo on your team? We're not talking basketball right, just personalities? Not that KG's age has any bearing on his personality...

Yeah that's a little too far :man10:

One 50 year old Garnett would get smashed against most anybody. But 10 prime Carmelos? I'll take that over Skeletor over there.

Sorry Rooscooter, but you are trying too hard to find a reason to hate on Melo right now. KG talked crap about Melo's wife, that is something that you just don't do as a man. Melo felt that way and tried to talk to KG after the game, was prevented from doing so but got to talk to KG about on the phone. Just another one of KG's trash talking antics that goes too far. Regardless, the beef is squashed, nothing left here.

BTW can we try to keep all Knicks related stuff in the official thread guys? I mean, I made it for a reason!
