I'd rather spend that money on someone else anyway if it's going to cost that much to bring him here.

There's demand for shooters now, do not discount that. Copeland will do better than vet min that is for sure. Lakers will have to part with at least some of their mini-MLE for this guy. Is he worth it? Don't know him well enough to say.

Korver just agreed to 4 years, $24m with the Hawks. Really ups the market for 1-dimensional players who can shoot. Copeland definitely not coming here ...

This isn't just about Cope, but all our FA targets...

Beggars can't be choosers and this summer we are the beggars. We have nothing to offer free agents.
1) We aren't contenders. So there won't be any Jamison-esque signing this summer.
2) We don't have money. So we can't overpay for a need.
3) We have a Kobe who's shelved with an injury, a near-done Nash, and our starting frontcourt is a big ? So no one is leaving money on the table to play with X.
4) Can't sell any of these guys how we are trying to sell Dwight -- yeah, we'll suck this year, but we have money next year to put talent around you. These type of players are here for short contracts; 1-2 years and not the long haul.

Only players who haven't been overpaid: West, JR, Kevin Martin, Tony Allen, Blatche, Watson, Maynor. Half of those guys stayed on their teams out of loyalty or comfort. We aren't in that position.

All of the shooters are getting paid. Right now, the market price for a shooter is upwards of $6m annually. This is the position we are targeting. So whichever one we can steal for the MMLE, we take and call it a win.

Cavaliers were considering a multiyear deal for Copeland, but Earl Clark severs that. Keep an eye on that $1.75 mil for Cope with #Knicks.

Marc Berman @NYPost_Berman about 23 minutes ago

According to source, Copeland hasn't decided on offer sheet yet. Lakers very much in mix but have to wait on Dwight Howard. Indy, Utah, too.

What kind of offer would it even take for New York to decline to match his offer? The full mini-MLE? Not sure I'd want to give him that much if we could get Calderon for that money.

Seems like we have a pretty decent shot in getting him if Dwight resigns. Hopefully we get good news on Dwight tomorrow.

Seems like all the teams in the league are waiting to see what Dwight does.

But ontopic now: I like him, saw him play in Belgium many times here with Aalst. He's a good player, not that NBA type of player but can shoot the ball very well. Something we need. But since this would be his second year, don't overpay this guy. He was the MVP in Belgium but almost every game he scored 50% of the team's points, being very selfish at times. And I saw that in the Knicks games I've watched throughout the year.
Sign him? Got doubts and wouldn't do it.

Not surprised by this since Dwight isn't staying.

Whoops, see you beat me to it, but still, just one more we won't be getting. Not too upset over this one though

Y! Sources: Pacers reach agreement with restricted free agent Chris Copeland on two-year, $6.1 million contract. http://tinyurl.com/k6usaoq

:lg2k3: No name players getting PAID this offseason. We couldn't even afford Chris Copeland, who are we going to get to come here for the minimum now? I'm ready to get down and beg Sasha to sign with us. :man10:
