BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Clippers get it back. Not as bad as us though. Not unless Doc Rivers was fired, hired here, and then we traded Gasol for Rondo. Then we'd be talking so REAL basketball reasons.

That's what the Clippers get though there's still a chance for some sort of deal to go through.

I'm confused, I thought it was always known you can't trade a coach. I thought all the Celtics were doing was trading Garnett to the Clippers and if the deal goes through then they let Doc out of his contract so he can go to LA, that's not exactly a trade of a coach. If it's against the rules then ok fine, don't allow it, but I don't want to see any franchises getting unfairly screwed by Emperor Stern even if it is funny or happened to us first, just means it could keep happening, F Stern.

Clippers new strategy is to land Doc first, roll dice on KG/PP later, sources tell ESPN. Story with @ESPNSteinLine coming shortly

They can still DO it. They just can't trade picks and all that stuff for Doc AND they can't clump KG/Doc deals together.

That's what I'm getting out of this.

The trade was for the rights to Doc Rivers' coaching. It was centered around that and I'd argue it was the most important piece of the trade. The players moving was for Garnett's benefit, but it wasn't the most important part of the trade.

The Celtics don't want to lose Rivers for nothing. If he's going to leave and coach elsewhere, then they want value for him (and I think they're right for that). If Rivers didn't want to be there for so long he shouldn't have signed the contract that he did.

Theoretically, can't the Celtics just fire Rivers, he then goes and signs with the Clippers? Jordan could be traded for picks and Garnett.

Yes. But the Celtics don't want to do that. They get nothing in return for maybe their best asset.

Yeah, why can't they just fire him and he goes there, then the Celtics get picks for KG. Or can't Rivers just quit?

The Celtics so far are unwilling to just let go of Doc Rivers without compensation and I get it. He's a great coach. Why should they fire him? or waive his contract? That's paying one of the better coaches in the league to go coach another team. It doesn't really make much business sense.

I dont understand how it differs from the proposed trade if they just fire him. They still get Jordan, 2 picks, and cash considerations.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think if they fired Doc, they'd have to pay him more than they would if they just waived his non-compete clause and allowed him to re-negotiate with the Clippers.

They lose an asset for nothing to a team they're trying to make a deal with. I wouldn't do that.

Suck it!

But now that everyone knows Garnett and Pierce are on their way out... How about Gasol for Garnett/Lee? :man1:

Clippers gonna clip
This is why they're a garbage franchise, as long as Sterling is the owner they will always suck
They got handed cp3 and griffin, had a chance to get doc rivers, KG, and Pierce, and completely fumbled it
:man10: :man10: :man10: :man10: :man10:
I should get an assist for that. It's an intentional pass to oneself, so it's an assist. That way people can't say all I do is shoot.

I'll translate this....

CP3 called Celtics today, offered a future 1st round pick for rights to coach Doc Rivers and sides near agreement, source tells CL!.

Worth noting - Donald Sterling breaking everything in his office that he can afford. The paper plates and pencils are all broken.

In the NBA's view, nothing has changed regarding a Doc Rivers compensation deal. It's not allowed to be attached to players, period.

I can't see the NBA blocking a straight compensation deal for Rivers. We've seen that before. Drama would begin if they push for KG later.

Issue for Celts/Clips will be if they try to revive KG-for-DeAndre stuff. How do they prove terms of a trade are not tied to Rivers deal?

just wondering, has there ever been a deal similar to the one they've been dicussing to land rivers? because i'm pretty sure i've never heard of NBA teams making a deal involving a head coach.

i remember when the raiders "traded" jon gruden to the bucs but i don't ever remember something like this happening in the NBA

This is so whack on so many levels....I cannot believe the Clippers are about to get Doc Rivers for a future first round pick that won't mean anything to them...just unbelievable. They went from having arguably the worst coach in the league to probably a top 3 coach in Doc Rivers.....Cp3 will surely re-sign now and now maybe Dwight thinks about the Clippers seriously in a sign and trade scenario.
