Nets Make Trade Call To Celtics On Kevin Garnett (Pg. 4)

Re: Source: Garnett In No Hurry To Re-Sign With Celtics (Pg. 2)

^^He's got 3 options to be on a winner....

Boston builds a contender in the offseason and he re-signs....
He re-signs with Boston and they trade him to a contender.....
He signes for the Mini-MLE on a contender....

If we really want him we've got 2 our of those 3 chances..... I can't see us trading Pau to Boston for Garnett unless Rondo is somehow involved..... and if Mitch did that Pau would be involved in the two biggest rip-offs in NBA history.....

We may have a shot at signing him if we can turn Pau and other moves into a legit contender that needs a PF to be complete..... again.... tall order I'm afraid.

Coach? No check.
Money? No check.
Roster? Pretty small check outside of Kobe and Bynum.

If we can get Deron then I'd say it's very likely.

Nothing about acquisitions in the NBA is very likely. Two things that are very unlikely are Deron Williams coming to LA and Kevin Garnett following him. I would love it if it happened, but I don't honestly believe either of those things are true.

I don't see how it's unlikely. Brooklyn obviously has to trade him and we have two great trade assets in Gasol/Bynum.

Kendrick Perkins Expects Kevin Garnett To Return To Celtics

Kendrick Perkins Expects Kevin Garnett To Return To Celtics

By Gary Washburn
Globe Staff / June 17, 2012

MIAMI - Oklahoma City center Kendrick Perkins said he has talked with former Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett and believes the 17-year veteran wants to return to the NBA next season.

Garnett did not speak with the media after the Celtics’ Game 7 loss to the Heat June 9 and has given no hint of his plans next season. He hugged Doc Rivers after exiting Game 7 and gave the coach a pat on the head, moving Rivers nearly to tears.

Garnett is an unrestricted free agent and could re-sign with the Celtics or test the market and be courted by teams for the first time in his career. Garnett has never been an unrestricted free agent.

“I feel like if he does return to basketball, I think that that would be the team,’’ Perkins said of the Celtics. “I heard Kevin say a few times that he wouldn’t want to play for anybody but Doc, so it will be interesting to see. I still think he got a lot more years in him. He got a lot of love for the game and it would be hard to see Kevin walk away from the game right now.’’

When asked if he sensed Garnett wanted to keep playing, Perkins said, “I do. I think he found some kind of new life, what do you call it? The fountain of youth, just how he’s been playing over these last couple of games in the playoffs and in the regular season, he’s almost a 20-10 guy. I hope he does come back. It’s good for the NBA. He’s still an icon in the league and you just like to see what he brings to the table.’’

Doc Rivers Thinks Kevin Garnett Will Come Back

Image

By Steve Bulpett

Kevin Garnett has yet to say he’s definitely coming back for an 18th NBA season, but Doc Rivers was certainly pointing everyone in that direction at this morning’s Positive Coaching Alliance breakfast.

Asked during a panel discussion if the 36-year-old will again play for the Celtics [team stats], Rivers said, “Absolutely ... Let’s just say yes. Positive thinking.”

Speaking during the sports leadership breakfast at Fenway Park [map], Rivers, seated with Red Sox [team stats] manager Bobby Valentine, Boston College hockey coach Jerry York and Harvard basketball coach Tommy Amaker, didn’t seem to have much doubt as to Garnett’s immediate future.

“I hope he comes back, and I think he will,” said the Celtics’ coach. “I have no basis for that. I just believe that he will.”

Rivers added that Garnett and his people have been in contact with director of basketball operations Danny Ainge and are discussing the particulars.

If Garnett does come back to the Celts, it’s likely he will again play in the middle.

“Yeah, unless we get a center,” said Rivers with a laugh.

“Kevin can play either position,” he added, referring also to the power forward spot. “I don’t think it really matters. For us, it’s whatever we have around him, we’ll put him in the opposite spot.”

Clippers Interested In Kevin Garnett?

Sean Deveney ‏@SeanDeveney

Sources tell Sporting News that the #Clippers have contacted the #Celtics about Kevin Garnett. Offer would include Caron Butler and Beldsoe.

Uuummm.... That doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons...

1. The Celtics want Bledsoe? I mean sure, Rondo is out for a long time but Bledsoe doesn't solve that problem.

2. The Clippers want Garnett? For what? They've paid DeAndre Jordan a f*** load of money and Griffin is obviously starting. They want to overspend that much?

3. The Clippers want to trade Bledsoe? He's easily their most valuable trade piece, but he's also the most valuable insurance in the league. If the Clippers traded him and then Chris Paul left, who would man their front line afterwards? Willie Green? Or worse yet, if Paul goes down with his yearly injury (which may have hit right now), who takes over and tries to keep the team going? Is Garnett going to play point guard?

Why would the Clippers give up a young guy with so much potential in Bledsoe for a Garnett on his last leg?

I knew it ... the Clippers will always find a way to screw things up ... :man10: . You can't count on Paul's health and Bledsoe is their insurance. And what do they need KG for? Well at least he fits with all of those douchebags over there ...

Odom/Blodsoe for KG looks good to me from both sides. You guys say Cp3 could leave Clipps, so could Howard with us. This just shows Cp3 that Clipps willing to push it all in now. KG can play C just like the way they're using Odom right now but unlike Odom, Kg is a much better player on both sides of the court. Insurance policy or not, its obvious Clipps aren't gona brake the bank for Blodsoe next year anyways and he clearly better starting as well.

Clipps aren't even playing DJ in the 4th anyways, I dont think money should factor into a player playing time, same thing with Mcgee in Den, he's also got $10mill/yr and he barely plays 16-17mins a game.

Well that's why you're not a GM. You don't pay a guy that kind of money, waste it really, on a player you're not intent on developing/using.

McGee and Jordan are huge wastes of money and I guarantee they'd try to move either of them at this point if they could.

I know I'm not a GM, the point stands if a player doesn't help you win you dont play them no matter how much they make. Clipps wouldn't be overspending since they most likely offered Odom in the deal, they wouldn't be wasting money on DJ since he'll still start and not finish, same role he's in right now, KG in the middle is alot better then Odom in the middle.

What in the world are you even talking about?

This trade doesn't do anything to help the Clippers and it costs them Bledsoe. Yay, they play Garnett to end close games, but so what? Is that worth the 11 million you're going to spend on him for 3 seasons? Is that worth losing Bledsoe who is your insurance policy for Paul? Of course not.

You said if Paul leaves it's the same situation as Howard leaving. That's exactly why we haven't traded Gasol and won't likely trade him until this summer. The Clippers are in the same boat. They'll try to re-sign Paul this summer. If they don't/can't then they move on to Bledsoe. If they re-sign Paul, then they'll let Bledsoe go.

Trading him for anything short of a star would be the biggest mistake that franchise could make.

Yeah don't get this KG/Clipper talk. Doesn't make sense IMO.

Question for curiosity.

Contracts and $$ aside, who is the more valuable player to obtain via trade, KG or Pau? For any team.

I would say Gasol because he's still a serviceable player (I put them pretty near each other) AND his contract is friendlier for rebuilding.

Yeah Pau can still be a starter. I was just asking because if Bledsoe/Butler/Odom are being suggested for KG, eff all these trade scenarios with Pau I've seen.

I think Pau's value is greater as well. I would love to get a deal like that.

I don't think that would make sense for either side. Yeah the Celtics need a true PG, but is Bledsoe really that guy? What do they need Butler for?
They are already weak on the frontline, and they're giving up KG, their only truly good PF/C? They already have a bunch of backcourt players

On the Clippers side, CP3's health should be a concern. Bledsoe is a terrific backup. They already have a bunch of frontcourt players, do they really need Garnett, who's getting old and on a "bad" contract? I get that he's a better closer than Jordan, but who isn't? Run with LO, try to go small, find a cheaper/younger player..
