AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The wife of Detroit Pistons forward Darvin Ham was arrested early Friday on a domestic assault charge, authorities said.

Oakland County sheriff's deputies were called to the couple's Rochester Hills home about 3 a.m. EST, Sgt. John Jacobson said. According to a sheriff's report cited by The Daily Oakland Press of Pontiac, Deneitra Ham allegedly struck her husband on the head with a wine bottle during a domestic dispute.

Ham, who was bleeding when deputies arrived but refused medical treatment, did not wish to press charges against his wife. But deputies took her into custody under a Michigan law allowing a police officer to make an arrest if the officer has reasonable cause to believe an assault has taken place.

Deneitra Ham was arraigned later Friday on a charge of domestic abuse and was released on a personal bond, Jacobson said. Misdemeanor domestic violence is punishable by up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Ham, a reserve who has played in 40 games this season, was placed on Detroit's injured list March 13 with tendinitis in his right knee. He was not present at The Palace of Auburn Hills for the Pistons' game Friday night against Toronto.

Ham, 31, has played eight NBA seasons with six teams. He is in his second season with the Pistons.

Well, there's really nothing you could do to protect yourself if you were blindsided or snuck up on when your wife smacks you with a wine bottle to your head.

Even if he wasn't caught off-guard, it's not like he could do anything if she was drunk. I've had trouble once with a drunk girl, the crazy b---h was hard to restrain (not like she attacked me or anything), but who knows what could have happened when your woman goes psychotic on you.

This is sad. I hope nothing happened (and not reported) before the bottle-bashing incident. In these kind of situations, sometimes it's done in retaliation. I don't know if that is the case here, but it is a little too common.

He's got a little dirt under his fingernails now. This kind of spoils the "local son of Detroit who took the long way to the NBA, but now helps the hometown team win Championships" storyline. I wonder what this will mean politically for Ham's mother.
With expectation comes responsibility. Respect is earned. When opportunity arises, preparation will calm nerves, inspire confidence, and help you to realize the moment. Where there is failure is a blueprint of how to improve. To fail to learn, even with talent, makes you ordinary. To learn from all experiences is to learn to become the best.

Well I don't think this is really gonna damage Darvin's reputation as a good citizen. I read that Darvin had a scar on the back of his head from the incident, probably means he was blindsided and she caught him off guard. So it doesn't seem like he did anything to (physically) hurt her, she was probably drunk and a petty dispute got out of hand.

BTW, I thought Ham's mother was mayor of Saginaw...so isn't Darvin from Saginaw? I guess what you mean is local Michigan son, not local Detroit boy.

You're absolutely right. But this franchise plays in the Palace of Auburn Hills and call themselves the "Detroit Pistons" when (except for a collapsed roof and scheduling conflicts) haven't been in Detroit since 1978.

I was referring to Suburban Detroit (even though Saginaw is a stretch to be called a suburb of Detroit it's still under the thumb).
