The news is reporting that the so-called report is from a woman who is being sued by the sterling family for 1.8 Mill and she said she we would get back at them. Wonder how real the tapes are?

The tape is probably real. Sterling has the money to buy a fake story that tries to save his butt.

Can the NBA force him to sell the team or "temporarily" take the team away from him? This is almost franchise suicide.

Imagine you're black and you play for the Clippers. How can you even play hard knowing it'll just benefit Sterling? How can they ever sign a decent free agent again?

Just heard the part of the tape on ABC7 news. It sounds scripted from her side, like she was baiting him into it. But being the racist that he is, he took the bait.

As for the Clippers, Silver would be an idiot to let the Clippers have success in the playoffs. Just like Kobe's Lakers in 2004. Clippers are doomed.

I can see Sterling booking dinners and meeting with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as we speak. The big question is will he will he instagram photos from them.

In all seriousness Sterling is displaying attitudes from two or three generations ago. Attitudes that unfortunately still exist. While I object to a partner recording any private conversation seemingly for blackmail, litigation or vendetta it does not excuse Sterling at all. Unfortunately the Genie is out of the bottle, and that Genie is wearing a Klan hood. I cannot even attempt to accurately think what I would do as a black man in this situation as I am white. However I do think that it is a question of dignity, and if you did not act or do something then I believe it be shameful. Sterling has now confirmed what others who knew him better than I suspected. This is a cluster **** of Mel Gibson proportions and I actually feel sorry for Doc Rivers, Chris Paul etc. I believe Doc Rivers has already made a comment that he has to focus on Curry and winning game 4. I believe this comment will damage the Clippers for the next 3 seasons minimum.

I don't know any players, or at least not star players, or coaches in the NBA with a legit chance at the Finals or a title that would boycott their games because of this. Kobe can say he wouldn't play for him, but with a possible championship on the line, with legacy down the the line to be looked back on, does anyone think Kobe would really not play? I sure don't, that's punishing yourself and all your hard work because of your racist owner. I'm not black, so my opinion doesn't mean the same thing on the play or don't play issue, but I don't see how they could not play. All their work put in all season, their while life really, all the fans paying to see the game, the tv money, advertising money, the show must go on.

I was looking forward to this Adam Silver press conference. Everyone in the media was saying that this is gonna be his first big test, and the fact that he was having a press conference so soon had me expecting him to come down strong on Sterling right away ...

Nope. He's basically saying the investigation is ongoing so he won't discuss any sanctions against Sterling yet. He's acting like it's some big accomplishment that they got Sterling to agree not to attend Game 4 in the meantime ...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Stern. Stern GIFTED this man all the recent success that he's had meaning all that money he's cashing in now. Stern GAVE this known racist piece of **** the keys to what the Lakers earned. Sterling shouldn't be the only one getting flamed. Stern and the NBA deserve some pain too. Well of course Stern is untouchable now but the point should still be made.

How dare the NBA tear down the Lakers to support this racist?

I am as angry as anyone else, but I think Silver did the proper thing. They'll authenticate the tape or not and move ahead from there. It's just following due process and making certain it's not a hoax or anything else. The last thing Silver wants to have to do is back peddle. This is like law enforcement gathering enough legitimate evidence to make an arrest. It'll happen.

I just listened to the tape twice and Sterling really sounds a bit senile. Racism in itself is illogical, despicable and makes no sense, but he sounds even beyond that in the tape. A racist who's also losing his marbles. Time for him to go away.

I would love to see the NBA's by-laws that pertain to this sort of issue. Are they available anywhere?

God damn right.

In my history here at Clublakers, whenever I've written a post regarding Donald Sterling I'm pretty sure the words "racist," "cheap," and "slumlord" have appeared somewhere in the text. Guy has been sued multiple times for housing discrimination and overcompensates by posting these shameful ads in the LA Times with pictures of him and other celebrities at charity functions to show that he's a humanitarian. Fires coaches and doesn't honor the contract and pay them what they're owed, making them take him to court and sue him for their money. And now this? Everything points to this guy being a classless scumbag.

If you have any self-respect as a human being and respect for American ideals you would not patronize this team as long as that racist POS is the owner. As much as I love the Lakers, if Jim Buss came out and said the same hateful things, I would find a new hobby. I would not watch their games, buy their merchandise, and sure as hell would not go to games. I would not do anything to support this bigotry. Yes, it's a fallacy to think that racism will be eradicated off the face of the earth. But it doesn't help to turn a blind eye, sweep it under the rug, and go about your business like usual. We should at least try, no?

I am a bit sickened by columnists or commenters saying "he's gotten away with things like this for years, nothing will happen". I know those who state these comments aren't intending to excuse Donald Sterling, but they functionally are excusing him.

It's 2014. Sterling is a POS from a bygone era, and those admitting that "nothing will happen" are choosing to tolerate the prejudiced attitudes from the past. Those who have followed the NBA closely already know how big a piece of crap Donald Sterling is. But now time to show there's no more room for a person like this in the modern world. We need to keep talking/taking action until something is done with that POS.

I respect Woj, but he is dead wrong in stating that this isn't CP3's or Doc Rivers' battle. They and the rest of the players can make a difference. I completely agree with Jesse Jackson in that the Clipper players should boycott their owner.

And there you have it, the difference between the Lakers and Clippers: the former took in Magic Johnson like a son, while the latter still regards Magic Johnson a slave as a means for income. F this guy for real.

Although what Sterling said was way out of line. Lets not forget about this shady girl. Vanessa Stiviano embezzled more than $1.8 million dollars from Donald Sterling and she still currently in a lawsuit from the Sterling family. This was her way of getting back at him by recording him and releasing it on tape to the public. I dont agree with his comments but this was by far a set up for her to get him on record publicly and Sterling fell for it, and now he must suffer the consequences.

The girl didn't embezzle anything. His wife is suing her for the gifts lavished upon her by sterlings' pathetic [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] and wife is claiming he had no right to give out what is martial property. She is irrelevant in any case. Sterling has a history of racism and discrimination that goes back further than when this little chickenhead was even born.

Sure, she's a shady character. But on principle alone, she has full right to put him on blast as a Black & Mexican woman. Money & controversial comments aside, this POS has discriminated against and deprived Mexicans and African-Americans for YEARS as a landlord.

Even if it was a set-up, Sterling still deserves it.

Im sorry, but no one releases a tape "out of the kindness of their heart to stop racism" and then decide to not cooperate with the NBA. Im not saying Sterling isnt racist, because clearly he is and has no class, but this was definitely a set up and the timing of the lawsuit has everything to do with it. She has been dating the guy for years and all of a sudden she realizes he is racist and releases this tape?? Like I said, this has set up written all over it.
