My Pick:

Paul Pierce (2001-02) (Backup SF)

26.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.2 apg, 2.0 spg, 1.0 blk, 40.4 3pt%

I just want someone who can score and occasionally defend. Pierce is the all-time Celtics leader in points scored.

No, that'd be John Havlicek (as I said, most underrated Celtic... people always forget about the guy!).

That said, that is a great pick. We might hate him (well deserved hate), but Pierce has been a great player through his career (and though I hate to admit it, I do like his game a lot).

Pierce was one of the guys I had as possible picks afterwards.

That said, still, no one has picked the player I have in my mind, and this late in the draft, it's incredible he's still available. Will be a steal for whoever picks him.

I'm surprised that my next pick is still available in the 8th round. After choosing a bunch of nice guys, my team needs a bit of "mean". I draft 1992-93 Charles Barkley!

I knew he had to go eventually. I considered taking him a few rounds ago but just never really fit what my team needed.

Great pick of course, but pairing him with Dantley and Reed officially gives you the shortest 2nd string front line in the game.

i had him on my list, but never was going to fit my team. Isn't known as a great defender and doesn't really have an outside shot. Tweener too.

It's all about flexibility. I got guys that can play multiple positions. I may have plans of using Chuck as a SF and Dantley as a SG... Oops, I've said too much.

Ok, after having THREE picks taken from me in the last few selections, I am going to fill a bench need with the best pure shooter still on the board:

Glen Rice - 1997 - 26.8ppg and hitting at 47% from deep with over 200 threes made that year.

Rice will slot in at SF on my bench and TMac will slide over to SG.

Keep in mind there was a good reason neither of them ever played those positions. Foot speed... or lack thereof.

Damn you! I really thought Rice was gonna survive.

I seem to recall Charles being able to run out on the break (not TNT Charles, of course). And The Teacher was 6'5' 208 lbs. Certainly not a SF by today's definition...

Don't get me wrong. Charles was GREAT on the break for a 270lb guy, once he got his momentum going. But he would get killed guarding any small forward with any quickness in the half court where first step foot speed matters on D.

Dantley would have the same issue guarding quick SGs. He was a slow, methodical post up player who was exceptionally strong for his height, but struggled on D against perimeter players.

I believe it's me. Dennis Johnson.

I'll pick the year when I get home.
