A consistent problem Nash mentioned all season/reiterated on @ESPNLA710 was Howard's being unwilling/uninterested in running pick and roll.

This is crucial IMO. A big part of our offensive power was supposed to be the Nash-Howard PnR, yet we never ran it effectively or seemed to practice it enough to improve it. That tweet explains why, and it's basically what we knew all along: Howard, for some reason, didn't want PnR, he wanted post-up touches. Which was retarded, because PnR he was good at, and post-up ... not so much.
Not to mention that when he did get plenty of the touches he wanted, and struggled, and got criticized, he complained about people forgetting that he wasn't "100%" and that had rushed back from injury. So why should we give you the ball so much then?
It's so ridiculous: "I want touches, I want them in an area I'm not even proficient at, and I want the built-in excuse of injury for when I inexorably fail."

then go to Houston to play with Harden who is one of the best PNR players in the league to add to the nonsense .... does D12 expect Harden to mainly become a spot up shooter ? LOL

At least the Lakers can laugh about it so soon.

@KevinDing: Can't resist sharing the lead to my column about the joke from inside Lakers' offices about Dwight ... http://t.co/3QH6tmr9ww

The joke making the rounds within the Lakers' organization after Dwight Howard's departure is that he didn't just head to Houston for promises to play more in the post, escape Kobe Bryant's demands, avoid state income tax and savor a smaller town again.

There were two wholly unreported elements working in critical tandem during the process:

Dwight's baby mamas. And California's sky-high child-support rates.

Howard was never going to make more money by staying, even with that fifth guaranteed year the Lakers were offering!

That stat should elevate next season for them. The big adjustment will be for Harden, Parsons and Lin who as a trio love to hoist up outside shots. How will that affect their rhytmn? Dumping it down to Howard will slow their free flowing offense while he makes his moves. Also the jury still is out whether Howard has good enough ball IQ to properly pass out of the post.

Houston won 45 games last year and when you add a superstar talent like Dwight, that number surely has to go up, which means they would be look at being a top 4-5 team in the West, which I think they are. And Dwight will probably be more effective than last year as he continues to get more healthy and Harden will continue to refine his game. It all depends on how well Harden-Howard mesh together. If they click, they could be scary to stop.

I don't understand why no one is talking about the comedy of Dwight leaving Steve Nash to go and play Pick and Roll with James Harden :man10:

For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Agree... The adjustment for him and their free lancing shooters will take time. When I projected Howard to bolt to Houston, I reckoned he had ideas that it will be similar to the the success he experienced in Orlando with the personnel that they had in place.

Makes sense. Had he gone to GS, they'd be another super-team that everyone would be predicting to win the 'ship. Dwight doesn't want that kind of pressure.

It's ridiculous, even moreso when you check out the stat Doc Brown posted.
Maybe he won't be asking to post up that much in Houston? Maybe he'll comply?

I don't know where we were ranked last year, but if it's not higher than that, is Dwight going to be happy? He wanted more than that and I don't see Houston completely changing their offense like that.

But I hope they do, so we can see that bum get a bunch of touches in the post, turn and fire a laser at the backboard.

Dwight Howard Signs With Rockets

Howard Selects Houston in Free Agency
Rockets Sign Three-Time NBA Defensive Player of the Year & Seven-Time NBA All-Star
HOUSTON – Houston Rockets Owner Leslie Alexander announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent center Dwight Howard. The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year inked a four-year max deal with the Rockets.

“Dwight is the biggest free agent acquisition in the history of the Rockets,” said Alexander. “His addition puts us in contention. This is good for the city and especially the fans. Fans are going to have a great time this year. This team will be tremendous fun to watch.”

Howard (6-11, 265, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy) owns career averages of 18.3 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.20 blocks in 697 games (696 starts) with the Orlando Magic and L.A. Lakers. He has also started 61 career postseason contests, averaging 19.7 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.72 blocks, as well as leading the 2008-09 Magic to the NBA Finals. A seven-time NBA All-Star, and six-time starter, Howard stands as the first player in league history to win three consecutive NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards (2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11). Howard has been named to the All-NBA First Team five times (2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12) and has earned All-NBA Third Team twice (2006-07 and 2012-13). In addition, Howard made the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team three straight seasons (2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11) and All-Defensive Second Team once (2007-08). As the youngest player to record 9,000 rebounds in NBA history (27 years, 130 days), Howard was also a unanimous selection to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team in 2004-05. Howard, who captured the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Championship, was acquired last year by the Lakers from Orlando as part of a four-team trade also involving Denver and Philadelphia on July 10, 2012.

“I’m just very excited to here. Leslie and everyone at the Rockets have been great to me so far,” said Howard. “This is very special. Words really can’t explain how I feel about being here. It is a fresh start, a clean slate. I am looking forward to doing it in Houston with these beautiful fans behind me. I think it is going to be great. I am looking forward to embracing this city and giving them everything I got.”

Selected by the Magic first overall in the 2004 NBA Draft, Howard still stands as Orlando’s all-time leader in total minutes played (22,471 - 36.2 mpg), total points scored (11,435 - 18.4 ppg), free throws made and attempted (3,366-5,727 FT), offensive rebounds (5,806), defensive boards (2,266), total rebounds (8,072 - 13.0 rpg) and blocked shots (1,344 - 21.6 bpg). While with the Magic, Howard became the first player in NBA history to lead the league in both rebounding and blocks in the same season for more than just one campaign. He also became just the fifth player in league annals to top the NBA in rebounding for at least three consecutive seasons.

Internationally, Howard is a member of the USA Men’s Senior National Team program and helped the USA capture the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Howard is perfect for Houston because they don't have expectations like the Lakers do. I mean think about this.... Any team that suffering as much injuries to its stars, secondary players and even scrubs as the Lakers did and still make the playoffs would be considered an amazing season. Lakers it is considered a failure. Houston finished behind that same said Lakers team and was happy. Dwight can't live up to real standards of a franchise that expects nothing less. Good riddance.

Could it be that Dwight sucks at pick and roll? He has few offensive strengths and having a guy who can get in the lane WITHOUT 2 screens creates the chaos he needs to get free for his one offensive strength.... the dunk.

The Nash/CP3 style pick and roll is a very slow developing offense and he is far better in an explosive offense and Harden has his holes but he can get to the hoop by himself and in a very quick manner.

Had you guys watched the Houston introducing Dwight Howard press conference? The broadcaster gave him a catchy new nickname. “He’s not Superman anymore. He’s Rocket Man now,” and the crowd chanting "Rocket Man", "Rocket Man" behind at the back. LOL RocketMan :man10:

And they also already associated Dwight with their legacy of bigs lol
