beverley is a known flopper and that was some fine work right there

i like how dwight pushes gasol and then does nothing but back away. if only there was still someone like karl malone in the league today, he'd have dwight's head bouncing off the floor in seconds

Marc would destroy Dwight. Also, what an ***hat move by Beverly. I have no respect for that.

Dwight Howard left Monday’s practice after being poked in the eye. Yikes. With luck it’s a minor inconvenience

He's still a monster defensively; people forget when he's focused and in tune, he's still the best center in the NBA. When he was healthy for us last year in the 2nd half of the season, the Chicago game and Indiana game come to mine; he changed those games defensively with his presence alone. I'm not a fan of Dwight 'the person', but he's a very talented player...now, does that make up for the missed FT's, the strips, the lack of fundamentals in the post, the crying for touches, pointing out stat sheets, dividing locker rooms, etc? Nope. I'm glad he's gone. Will move on and be fine without him.

He does have his bright spots, but unless he really buys into being the defensive anchor and not worrying about buckets I don't think he'll see much success.

The guy is talented. :man10:

No sense in disputing that... He's a great talent of a player. He'll have great, talented games. Doesn't mean he's not an idiot, a loser, and a coward.

Man, it's the day when "best center in the league" is known for only blocking shots and rebounding, despite lacking a post game. Where emphatic blocks and dunks are the standard over footwork, fakes, and keeping a ball alive. Fundamentals are a lost art. Sad sad sad.

1/4 on FT for a nice 25% conversion rate. May we commence on guessing what his season average %-wise will be.

i'm just bummed that, as I expected, he decided he's ok being a roll man now that he's not playing in la. I wish a lot of failure on this tool. playing hard all the time is a character thing; it's clear to me he wasn't giving it all last year. that's a character flaw. lose howard lose.

this reminds me of when shaq left for miami. after 2 years of us saying "hey man could you lose some weight, you're pretty fat" he goes to the heat and gets in shape no problem, seemingly to prove something and stick it to the lakers

I think it is clear that fun rings are more important to Dwight than championship rings. He strikes me as someone who would be extremely vulnerable to reverse psychology. Kobe to Dwight "Dwight I need you to score in the paint and not be our defensive anchor" Dwight to imaginary kobe "Kobe your old and not fun I am going to do the opposite of what you say and if you don't like that I will run away to Texas."

I think that's the mindset most players in any sport adopt after they're cut/traded. They want to prove that it was a mistake for parting ways.

Howard left on his own accord. He simply did not want to be here...felt the fans were ungrateful, Bryant was too much of a taskmaster, D'Antoni was not his kind of coach and didn't think the environment was conducive to winning. It's irrelevant as there are better squads than the Rockets in the West.

i'm not positive about that last point. okc is considerably weaker than in the past; SA is yet another year older, and the clips don't look that fearsome.

hope you're right, though.

Howard isn't Shaq in any way. He's going to be the same player in Houston when it's all said and done. He might get another award but he isn't "leading" anyone anywhere. Not in his make up.

5-12 at the line..... And all 4 of his makes were dunks. He shoots around 40% when it's not a dunk.

Dwight will put up numbers but in the end I think he will show Houston they can win anything with him.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

abeer3, the teams you mentioned aren't significantly better but have enough to keep Houston from possibly advancing. The Thunder have Perkins. San Antonio has Duncan and Splitter, Warriors have Bogut and Lee. Howard impacts the game on defense but will not overwhelm opposing pivotmen on offense. Clippers? Jury is still out on Jordan but they have Hollins who seem to bait Howard into cheap offensive fouls.

Weren't you saying over and over all offseason how Houston wasn't a better team than us, especially after trading or cutting a bunch of players? Now you think they're the best in the west? I'm confused as to what changed except a preseason was played and they looked good in a few games in the regular season.
