Dwyane Wade Working On Regaining Shooting Touch

Dwyane Wade Working On Regaining Shooting Touch

Dwyane Wade struggled with his jumper last season, but is working with a shooting coach.

"I have one of the best mid-range shots in the league," he said. "But, obviously, when you have different injuries, it makes you change a little bit. So it's just about getting back to that comfort of it and finding out where you are now.

"My midrange game is very important to me. The biggest thing is coming out of my pull-up without losing the ball and just making sure it comes through my hand the right way. When it comes to my shot exactly, I don't have a bad shot. There's other reasons why I come up short a lot. So it's just trying to work the kinks out."

Here's Wade's numbers through the years for shots between 10 feet and the 3 point line (mid-range):

11/12: 172/471 (36.5%)
10/11: 199/520 (38.3%)
09/10: 208/579 (35.9%)
08/09: 335/791 (42.4%)
07/08: 175/462 (37.9%)
06/07: 185/482 (38.4%)
05/06: 323/806 (40.0%)
04/05: 256/636 (40.2%)
03/04: 86/279 (30.8%)

Maybe he's got one of the best mid-range shots in the league because most of the league doesn't shoot from there. Then he'd get it basically by default. But his mid-range game is vastly overrated. He has shot 5026 mid-range shots and made only 1939 of them (38.6%).

sidenote- Kobe hasn't shot under 40% since the 04/05 season.

Maybe Wade means right now? In the game today? I'd still tend to doubt that 36.9% in the last 3 years is one of the best in the league, although I'd have to check.

There's not argument behind it.. He's just an overconfident guy, always has been.
Nothing about his game screams "shooter". Nothing. Not percentages, not mechanics, not his usual shot selection.. He's just talking out of his a**-

I was never truly impressed with his mid-range game over a long period of time. When's he's creating space off the dribble, pulling up and hitting, it's memorable. Very few players in the league break a guy down off the dribble better than Wade does. In all, his jumper needs work. Serious work. Bron has turned the corner in a big way since he entered the league in 2003 with his jumper. If Wade can even get on his Bron's level, he's even more lethal. He's not getting younger. That J will be needed.

I'm not a shooting coach but I can play one on line. Clear to me from the photo it's simply the jaw has gotten too large and heavy at top of his body and throws off his balance on the fall-aways when leaning back.

He hasn't adapted his game yet while getting older ... the fact he hired a shooting coach for the 1st time after 9 years in the league says a lot ... He has two seasons left as a top 10 NBA player imo

He hasn't been able to shoot since that jaw enlarged.

wade's always made odd claims about himself. i think he was one of the few athletes i've heard touting his humility early in his career--which is, of course, ironic.

then again, he's always had the media in his pocket, so i'm sure that this will become a known fact by next week.

i'm also QUITE sure that henry abbott won't write a 10,000 word post about wade's patently false claim.
