First Take: Fines For Flopping: Like It, Love It Or Hate It?

I would have to agree with someone in the other thread who said that some stars would lose their star power if they ceased to flop. The league won't sacrifice those guys, but they'll go after everyone else.

They should retroactively fine some teams for excessive flopping. My top three:

1) the 2006 Miami Heat
2) the 2002 Kings
3) the 2012 Clippers

Did they forget heading into this discussion that the offensive player can flop as well? And ofcourse, the way they pop up once they get the call, you cant help but wonder if researchers shouldn't be looking into the healing powers of free throws.

It would be best to just draw attention away from flopping. The real answer is to stop calling ticky-tack fouls. When players don't get calls, they'll learn not to flop. If and when players get fined for flopping, the theatrics of the game will be headlines for the NBA, rather than the game itself. Bad look IMO.

Great point. If they just tell their refs not to reward flopping, then guys will stop VERY quickly. Chris Paul would have to dramatically change his game.
