Mavs' Fisher (sprained knee) out at least three games

DALLAS (AP) -- Mavericks point guard Derek Fisher will miss at least three games because of a strained right knee.

He won't play Thursday night against Miami and will skip a two-game trip to Memphis and San Antonio. The team says there is no timetable for his return and Fisher will be re-evaluated next week.

He was hurt in the first quarter of Tuesday's win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 38-year-old Fisher is a 16-year veteran who won five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks signed him three weeks ago because of injuries and spotty play at the point.

Fisher replaced Darren Collison as the starter after signing. He is averaging 8.6 points and 3.6 assists in nine games.

This made me wince... knees don't sprain easily and at his age that's going to be a problem.

gave so much to our franchise, sacrificed his body, gave us unforgettable moments.

i wish we can do something for him to be remembered, without bringing our lakers standards down for honoring players. (have to be HOFers to retire the jersey)

Fisher is just fulfilling the grand plan of former Lakers who vex the Mavericks!

probably not

he actually showed that he's still got something left, but an injury like this is tough to recover from when you're almost 40

i love fish to death, my first laker jersey was a fish jersey (even though kobe is my main boy)

but im very content with duhon being our 2nd string PG. blake needs to go.

i was very surprised derek got the starting job at dallas.

but anyways i wouldnt mind him coming to be a 3rd string PG and be a locker room guy, but that wont happen

Yeah what are you talking about? Duhon is averaging slightly more than 4 assists per turnover right now while shooting 41% from deep. The dude has been really solid for a 3rd string backup PG.
