Flopping Thread (Lee calls out Griffin pg. 3)

Jarrett Jack got a bit of publicity when he tweeted earlier in the week that the league warned him about flopping in a preseason game as part of its new anti-flop crackdown. But he’s far from the only one. A league source tells Grantland the NBA flop czars have already warned “about 10” players for preseason floppage, though the league won’t publicly release their names. (That will change once the season starts and the shaming begins.) But it’s clear already the league is taking this seriously, and an aggressive early push wouldn’t be a surprise.

HA! I like that part. They should have to wear for the next game or few games stick on lettering under their names, "I have no balls" :man10: ...... as derisively coined by Kobe Bryant

Hardwood Paroxysm ‏@HPbasketball
Oh, another thing on flopping: NBA official told reporters this month that referees have NOT been told to alter THEIR calls in any way.

Hardwood Paroxysm ‏@HPbasketball
The flopping policy does not extend, whatsoever, to getting refs to call flop less or call fouls on floppers or any of that. No change.

Hardwood Paroxysm ‏@HPbasketball
They have standard policies not to fall for the worst flops, but they heven't been given points of emphasis on flopping.

Eric Freeman of Yahoo wrote:The NBA grabbed headlines before the season by announcing plans to crack down on flopping with fines and suspensions. There were questions about how effective the penalties would be or if they could be enforced consistently, but the root of the concept wasn't necessarily bad. There are some notorious floppers around the league, and getting them to stop doing so would be a nice change.

Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin is one of the players, and so far this season he hasn't curbed his propensity to embellish contact. On Saturday night, the man guarding him decided he'd had enough.

With a bit more than six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the Clippers' home game vs. the Golden State Warriors, Jamal Crawford knocked down a long jumper. As the ball went through the hoop, Griffin and his Warriors counterpart David Lee made slight contact under the hoop, which Griffin exaggerated to make it seem as if Lee had knocked him off balance. It wasn't a particularly egregious flop, but it was the kind of move that Griffin makes fairly often. Lee had seen enough, and so he challenged Griffin with a shout: "Stop flopping!" The players got in each other's faces for a minute before referees broke them apart.

Lee didn't only voice his disapproval as a moral issue — chances are he wanted to draw the attention of referees and make sure Griffin didn't get calls he hadn't earned. But, now that the NBA has come out against flopping with rules (however vague they are), Lee has some force behind his comments that wouldn't have been there last season. It's possible, in fact, that he never would have voiced his displeasure if the league hadn't made its feelings known with new rules.

Of course, Lee hasn't suddenly become part of the NBA-approved vanguard simply because he agrees with one of their rules. Griffin, in addition to being a notorious flopper, is a heavily marketable young star with broad appeal. The league isn't going to turn on him just because he flops, and for all we know they haven't yet issued his one pre-fine flopping warning. In the NBA's world, flopping is only a major problem until it brushes up against other, more important issues.

I've always liked David Lee.

The NBA should do us a favor and suspend Dribble Morris for the rest of the season for his flop last night

So funny for griffin getting called out b/c he is a flopper. But I didn't see a flop on that particular play.

First players to get flopping warnings...Barea and Sloan.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/barea-sloan-nbas-1st-2-232304416--nba.html

Flopping fines go up from $5,000, 10,000 all the way up to $30,000. That can be a lot of moohlah for a player like Sloan. NBA...Pickin on the lil guys.

We'll see just how rigged this is if we can make it a month into the season and the pampered stars like Wade, Manu, Paul, Blake and Pierce have no warnings or fines..... while second tier players take the brunt of the new rule.....

Do you think come playoff time, they are going to suspend a marquee "flopper" I mean superstar and have them miss a playoff game in front of a nationally televise audience for flopping? I don't....

As you said, it's for the grunts, not the big dogs. You might see a slap on the wrist here or there, but that might be the extent of it.

^^Not going to happen..... well.... maybe..... could happen. I seem to remember twice in a month a certain "star" player got suspended for "following through aggressively" on missed 3 point shots.....

The Clippers are still the darlings of the league..... they are the poster child for what they wanted after the lockout... no chance they put Biff or Paul out of a game where Biff's commercials are being played twice every quarter.....

There's no chance they allow one of their golden children to get suspended for a game that can be a marquee game.

I think if the NBA WAS going to suspend a marquee player, it'd be for a game not on national television. For instance if Kobe was to get suspended for flopping they'd wait until we played Charlotte or some crap team like that.

I knew this would happen. Role players are getting the warnings and fines, but not stars, who actually flop way more. For example, CP3 should've been fined just for the game against us, he CLEARLY flopped like 3 times in that game.
Typical.
