Hawks sign Millsap @ $19m/2 years

Postby JSM on Sun Jul 07, 2013 12:49 pm

Brian Windhorst of ESPN wrote:The Atlanta Hawks have reached an agreement on a two-year, $19 million contract with free-agent forward Paul Millsap, sources told ESPN.com.

The Utah Jazz renounced their rights to Millsap earlier Friday to clear space for a trade with the Golden State Warriors.

Millsap averaged 14.6 points and seven rebounds for the Jazz last season.

Forward DeMarre Carroll, Millsap's teammate in Utah, will follow him to Atlanta. Carroll and the Hawks agreed to a deal Friday, Carroll's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard.

Good for Millsap. I like him and I'm glad he got paid a good amount.

I may be proven wrong, but I think this was a steal for Atlanta. millsap should have gotten similar money for twice the time, imo. can't believe al Jefferson fetched 3/41, josh smith got 4/56, and millsap got 2/19.

is there something i'm missing?

I think he's got a lot of value, but I also think that most teams don't plan around a guy like him. And when you factor in that most of what he does comes off of hustle and hard work and not necessarily talent, then most teams want to pay him like a hustler and not like a building block.

Both of those guys were eating up the Jazz minutes while stunting Kanters, and Favors growth. The worst part about Jefferson and Millsap was that they kept Utah just competitive enough to miss out on quality draft picks, but not competitive enough to contend. The Jazz have been stuck in "treadmill" hell since Boozer, and Williams left.

Now that the Vet's are gone the Jazz can finally see what the young fella's can do, while tanking for wiggins. No brainer move IMO.

Great signing, Millsap's a very good player

I think he's a good fit next to Horford and they are in the running still for Drew, Ellis, or Jennings. Could be a much improved team from last year's club.

Not for Dwight... but for Ellis and Jennings yes.
