Heat’s Roger Mason Jr. victim of armed robbery in Miami
As frightening as it must have been Roger Mason Jr. can feel fortunate it didn’t turn out worse.
The Miami Heat reserve and his sister were having dinner last Sunday after a Heat win at home when they and others in a Miami restaurant were robbed at gunpoint and his Rolex was stolen. NBCMiami.com has the details.
Miami Heat player Roger Mason Jr. and his sister were robbed at a Biscayne Boulevard restaurant Sunday night, but police said they recovered the NBA guard’s Rolex after a chase ended with the arrest of two suspects on Monday….
Shots were fired either inside or outside the restaurant but no one was hit, and the four suspects fled the scene, Burden said….
Rashaud Stroud, 32, and Steven Dawson, 30, are both charged with armed robbery with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm while committing a felony, police said. Dawson is also charged with possession of stolen property. According to an arrest report, Stroud admitted to the robbery after his arrest.
Police are still looking for the other two believed to be involved in the crime. Mason’s sister had her purse stolen but it also was recovered, according to the report.
Mason signed as a free agent with the Heat just before the start of the season and played a limited role for Miami mostly off the bench. He has played just 70 minutes total this season (he started one game) and is averaging three points a game when he does play (shooting 31.3 percent). He’s the kind of veteran reserve the Heat like to keep on the roster feeling they can trust him during the season and maybe for a specific matchup in the playoffs.
We’re just glad he wasn’t injured. And getting the Rolex back is nice, too.
