Erik Spoelstra has apparently decided upon a starting lineup for the Miami Heat for the coming season, with Shane Battier at power forward.

Chris Bosh will start at center and LeBron James will slide down to small forward.

Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers will start in the backcourt.

Battier finished last season as an undersized power forward.

Lets see how this small ball experiment goes over the course of a full season

Besides Bynum and Hibbert, no C in the east is going to give Bosh nightmares defensively.

They win the title playing this lineup ...

Again no team besides the Lakers are good enough inside to make them pay for their position- less B-Ball ... Bosh is a lot quicker than the majority of the centers ... will get owned on the boards though...

Considering their main opponent in the East is a terrible rebounding team , they'll be fine

Good luck for Bosh dealing with Howard :man9:

Bosh vs. Howard and Battier vs Pau.

I like it. Not to mention Wade vs. Kobe and Chalmers vs. Nash. I love it.

If we face the Heat in the Finals, I'm confident that Howard will own Bosh, but I don't know about Pau; Battier can check Pau IMO, if a midget like Chuck Hayes could manage it then Battier shoud too

Are you seriously comparing Chuck Hayes post defense to Battier's? :man10:

My point was Pau could be effectively guarded by smaller dudes, Chuck Hayes, Carl Landry and such

This is probably the best fitting starting lineup they have. Bosh has amazing range, and Battier will stay in the corner shooting threes, leaving plenty of space in the lane for Lebron and Wade to go to work.

Defensively, I would imagine Lebron helping cover Battier's man depending on the matchup, with Haslem, and Anthony ready to come in to D up.

No it won't. He was fouling Pau all over the place. Also, he can't mantain Pau in a playoffs series.

^^If it were 2 years ago I'd throw up a :man10: as well..... but the current version of Pau would have a hard time backing down Battier or just about anyone else.

What the hell happened to him? Does he ever lift weights or work on his strength?

Miami's change might be a very good thing for them. It creates a mismatch on most nights with Bosh being much more mobile than any center not named Howard and even then Bosh is about even..... It also gets another one of their shooters on the floor as well. With this line up LeBron might get 10 boards a game as well.

Translation: Heat will start 5 wings, and their first two players off the bench will be wings as well.
There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.

it's a gamble, but a good one considering the lack of talented big men (especially in the east). few teams, if any, will have the gumption and discipline to try and pound them inside for 48 minutes. those that do could cause them problems, even if they are significantly less talented (see suns, phx).

If they let their bigs roam outside most of the time, teams will just zone up on them, and dare them to shoot threes all game. No team wins games with 5 wing players. No rebounds, no rings.

^ Except Scott Brooks did a poor job of countering. He kept playing Durant so many minutes at PF (who was atrocious on D by the way, 40+ mins & only 6 rbs a game?) . He should've kept rotation Perksins/Ibaka/Collison but Brooks wanted spacing to open up the floor for Durant & sacrificed defense and it cost them the series. Durant put up great offensive numbers but he was horrible on Defense, couldn't guard Lebron, couldn't rebound well.

IT gets really hard to score as the series progresses into the later rounds and if you score 98 points a game in the NBA finals series you should win but OKC wasn't plying D very well

Well I mean some of that is true, but the point remains it's not impossible to win with small ball.

Not surprising considering that the Heat did win the championship with this lineup last season. Obviously against a team like the Lakers they couldn't play small ball and would have to adjust accordingly, but they only play us twice a year and maybe in the Finals if both teams make it that far.

First off, Battier is not playing PF, it'll be LEBRON. Secondly, they won with this lineup last year, as it provides the most open floor for chalmers, wade and lebron to work with. Thirdly, they can easily slide Wade to the PG and put Ray Allen in there too, and then literally all 5 guys can hit the 3 ball. It'lll be extremely difficult to defend this team. LeBron can guard Pau, but Bosh will probably get destroyed by Howard. Luckily if Pau is being a softie, we can counter with Jordan Hill in there to guard Battier's 3 point shot, because he'll be quicker to the ball, or we can bring in Jamison to guard Battier, as he will also be able to defend him better than Pau can at the 3 point line...while still keeping HOward in the game as our post presence. We actually match up REALLY well with Miami. But this lineup is still scary because of LeBron being able to play so many different positions. They will be fine....because LeBron can defend 1-4.

^ To be fair to the Lakers, we match up against ANY team. :man10:

Against their small ball lineup, we'd still use Pau and put him on Battier on the perimeter. Have Artest against LeBron obviously and then Howard against Bosh. Pau may not be mobile, but Battier is pretty damn slow at this age. Pau just isn't allowed to cheat off of him. Take your chances with Battier shooting over Pau. If Battier wants to drive, he's not fast enough to get to the basket around Pau AND make a move around Howard.

If you put Ray Allen in and take Chalmers out, we have a lot of answers: put in Blake and make him chase Allen through screens. Put in Meeks for the same thing, but someone who can space the floor on the other end. We could put Nash on Allen, because I doubt they run the Celtics offense of Ray around multiple screens.
