no loyalty from the grizzlies... sad to see.
Every time I begin to ask, "Is he really as great as I think he is?" ...He proves that he is.
Every time I begin to wonder...He proves it...That is why I won't lose hope in him.
You know who I am talking about.

NBA coaching sources have said for weeks (months, even) that Grizz assistant Dave Joerger is overwhelming favorite to replace Lionel Hollins

Apparently Joerger is the defensive mind behind the Grizzlies and he already knows all the players, so no surprise there.

I don't recall Scott Brooks or Kevin McHale being fired.

No offense to the Memphis organization, but even though Dave Joerger had a lot to do with their defense, you need guys like Hollins who can manage temperamental stars like Zach Randolph. Coaching is not all X's and O's.

Still haven't totally grasped why they are letting him go.

-This could very well be the last run for the Spurs.
-The Lakers right now are in a holding pattern of what direction the team will go in.
- OKC even when fully healthy, I think the Grizz can take them.
- The Clips, LOL....
- GSW just a streaky team IMO.

Why break something up when they would be one of the most solid, consistent teams heading into the next 1-2 year period?

Whoever they hire, that person HAS to get to the WCF or that team is going backwards.

have we ever seen this before? a team improves and perhaps slightly overachieves, and they let their very popular coach go?

i think coaching matters. talent matters more, but hollins had the respect of key players on the team--and more importantly, he's been winning.

So many teams that have improved dumping coaches... weird.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

^^ Yeah, I'm with you guys. I don't get this firing at all. I thought Hollins did a really good job this year. As far as I can see he seems to have a good rapport with his players, too. Solid coach. These young guys could use some continuity in their HC.

On a side note, Memphis was easily my favorite non-Laker team in the playoffs. Loved the way they played. Hollins had a lot to do with that, too. And they made it farther than they ever have and probably farther than anyone expected them too.
