How Bouncy Are NBA Rims?

How Bouncy Are NBA Rims?

i was thinking about it, the rims, usually at public parks are double rimmed, which makes it harder to get the friendly bounce.

but the onces that you get at big 5 and places like apartments, churches, gated community parks, its much easier to get that friendly bounce whether off a floater or a jumpshot.

whats the NBA rim like? at some indoor gyms ive been to, the rims were also not bounce friendly.

Best description I could find

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4620192

I would assume they're closer to some of the nicer gyms I've played in, rather than the playgrounds, where getting a friendly bounce is highly unlikely.

Rim softness has a lot to do with trajectory and resultant force/direction. Not a coincidence that shooters with high arc get better bounces. They also have a larger target.....

That may be true, but those double rims with the chain nets are like playing that stupid game at a carnival.

Got me wondering if the NBA has standards for rims aside from the usual height and resistance to dunking guidelines. We already know that the NBA (and college ball as well) has standards regulating the the ball itself, the covering, how high should it bounce back when dropped from a certain height, etc.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Never knew about the rims. Good read.

However, this part struck me...

Said Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash, who for four consecutive seasons has managed to shoot at least 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 90 percent from the line: "I see no difference."

Wish Nash was like this with us. :man6:

i dont remember which jordan book it was, probably the jordan rules, but there is certainly anecdotal evidence of teams that prefer to play certain sides to start and end the game b/c one rim was easier to score on and the other was easier to defend.

well theres a clear difference with how rims are designed.

ive been back to these courts plenty of times, the double rimmed rims are a lot hard to get the bounce, but others its just so easy.

double rimmed req higher arc

home/recreational baskets are always softer

indoor ones are more or less the same, but i agree, the stiffness definitely varies. there are times when i know if i'm on a certain court, i cannot miss from 3.

pretty sure they're better than those double rimmed baskets at the park where the only way you can make a shot is if you swish it
