Jason Kidd decided to remain with the Nets as a free agent in 2003, passing over what could have been a golden opportunity to join the Spurs.

"It may be a silly excuse, but I wanted to try to win a championship on my own, and we had that opportunity in New Jersey," Kidd told the Dallas Morning News. "Then, the Nets went in a whole different direction.

"San Antonio did everything right. I just didn't make the right decision at the time."

Unsure of whether or not Kidd was really expressing regret, the News then asked if he wished he had joined the Spurs.

"Well, they've won two championships since then," Kidd said. "I might have had a ring by now."

Every time I begin to ask, "Is he really as great as I think he is?" ...He proves that he is.
Every time I begin to wonder...He proves it...That is why I won't lose hope in him.
You know who I am talking about.

As good as Jason Kidd was back then, I didn't understand why the Spurs were ready to give up on Tony Parker back then. He was already coming into his own at the time and was only 20. That didn't make sense to me back then.

J-kidd is a future HOF. Granted i 100% agree no way i give up on TP. Especially since he just went toe to toe with Kidd.

However looking back the fact he got a bunch of scrubs to the nba finals and took it to 6 games could have been 7 if not for a major game for timmy and a collapse by the nets.

We need a PG, Kidd wants a ring. 1+1=2?

The Spurs weren't giving up on TP, but at the time J-Kidd was a stronger PG for the starting spot. TP would have become the back-up point guard. Thankfully Tony responded well to the situation, he took it personally that the Spurs felt he had that much still to learn, so he worked hard and is a lot better today for it.
