Jrue Holiday to Pelicans for Nerlens Noel and a 2014 First

Postby Rooscooter on Thu Jun 27, 2013 7:54 pm

Woj has this up on Yahoo.....

The Philadelphia 76ers have acquired the rights to sixth overall pick Nerlens Noel in a trade that sends point guard Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The Pelicans also will send a 2014 first-round pick to the Sixers in the trade. The Sixers received a second-round pick (No. 42 overall in Thursday's draft) from the Pelicans.
Noel, a 7-foot center from Kentucky, had been a candidate to be selected No. 1 overall before slipping to sixth.
Holiday, 23, averaged 17.7 points and eight assists this past season for the Pelicans.

I like the team NO is putting together. They just need a SF (Vazquez and Holiday can start at the same time), and they could do damage

The Sixers made a great trade IMO. If Noel pans out they get a big man for a small man and a first round pick.... if not they get a first round pick that could be about where they got this one in a deeper draft.

I think it's a better trade for the Pelicans than it is for Philly, but I suppose a lot of it depends on how Noel turns out to be. This trade helps Philly get in better position for Wiggins next year and although the 2014 pick they received is top 3 protected it will still likely be a lottery pick.

I think it's only a good trade for them if Noel pans out. Holiday was an all-star this season, and he's definitely still improving. If Noel doesn't pan out, the pick enough isn't that great a reward, since it's top-5 protected..

I don't get this at all, Holiday was their best player. They traded him for a guy that is such an unknown he dropped from the almost certain first pick if healthy, down to 6th, and probably only that because he was being traded. My best friend is a Sixers fan and he's not real happy about this ha ha.

Interesting.

Looks like the 76ers are looking to rebuild.

This trade really rocked my world. I like Holiday a lot. I think he's a very good player and he just started to climb to that ceiling everyone thought he had.

The Pelicans' pick is also protected top 3, so it's not even that they're trying to get a shot at Wiggins or anything, they're just trying to get a shot at a couple lottery picks from that draft.

This draft must be really something else because a lot of teams seem to want to tank for this one. I guess props to the Sixers for realizing that they weren't going to get anywhere as constructed.

Also what do they do now with Vasquez? He was pretty nice for them last season and he's a decent player.

Philly's goal is to tank for Andrew Wiggins

Jrue Holiday is a good PG though.

All indications are that Philly has no plans to bring Bynum back.

Gotta agree with Rooscooter on this one. I think this was a great trade for the 76ers. I'm...not sure what NO was thinking. While Jrue is young and has potential, I think he's pretty overrated.

Maybe you play them both, like a 2 PG lineup, with Holiday being closer to a SG. I like their team, they just need a little depth and a SF (sounds familiar? :man1: )

I am so much more suprised about this trade and confused than I am about the PP & KG to the Nets.

I know the 76ers are in rebuild mode now, but you seriously give away your 23 or 24 year old All-star PG who has the best year of his career last year ??? :man3: :man3:

I was shocked when I heard this first.

FA talks are going to be starting in 3 days, and the 76ers haven't even hired a head coach to replace Collins yet. How is Hinkie supposed to sit down with any FA, much less Bynum, and explain to them how they fit into the team's future when they don't even know who the head coach is? They are in rebuilding mode. Plain and simple.

Philly taking another roll of the dice on another guy with a bum knee. Didn't they just go through this with Drew? I like this for NO, because Holiday is much more reliable than Gordon.

Next year's draft better be worth it and they can't even get Wiggins.

Phily, with the departure of Iggy last year and Bynum's bad knees, was going to be a bottom feeder anyway with Jrue Holiday. They pressed the reset button on a team with only 1 star and drafted 6'6" point guard Michael Carter-Williams. He has more upside than arguably any pick not named Nerlens Noel...and they got both. And a 2014 first round pick, which will be a lottery pick from New Orleans. They easily had the best draft of any team in 2013 in my honest opinion.

New Orleans landed a star and their future point guard for the long term.
