Kenyon Martin: why u no want me?

Hill can't be traded for awhile, and Kobe said that Pau isn't going anywhere, so I'm not sure why he'd be talking to us if he wants minutes. Even if we trade McBob, Martin would be a 3rd string PF.

Not if we slide Jamison up to backup 3.

Gasol for Iggy and SnT Meeks and picks and TPE.
Mcbob and Ebanks out in the Howard deal.
Jamison starts and Martin gets significant minutes.

Well, at least we know now why they are going after PFs.

Lots of versatility with these guys....our front court will still be solid and Nash will have plenty of room to operate with one big and a stretch 4 out there at all times.

Pretty much what I was thinking too.

I'm getting semi-excited about our frontcourt depth even if we traded Bynum AND Gasol...even without K-Mart, we still are pretty deep....Dwight, Hill, Harrington, Jamison, McRoberts. But I'd def prefer K-Mart as he would be able to come off that bench with Hill and provide that defensive toughness....something that we would not get from Pau.

Yeah I mean I read that trade and I kept thinking about that lineup. I realized that while Harrington may be a terrible defender, Howard can and will make up for it. If we signed Martin, we'd be pretty solid defensively anyway. Harrington fits better offensively than Gasol too. If we could turn Gasol into back court depth, and pick up Martin and Harrington, I'm in.

How about seeing someone other than Steve Blake or Andrew Goudelock playing behind Kobe? Or someone other than Matt Barnes or Devin Ebanks or Christian Eyenga playing behind Artest? Does that excite you at all?

It's not about one position, it's about balance. If Gasol can be turned into depth and we find a PF that can fit, it's a good thing.

Maybe. They say there's a lot of different options here. But if we have to give up Gasol it's not the end of the world. How quickly everyone forgets how crappy Gasol was in the playoffs the last two years.

Maybe. They say there's a lot of different options here. But if we have to give up Gasol it's not the end of the world. How quickly everyone forgets how crappy Gasol was in the playoffs the last two years.

I think Nash would help Pau's game, but a lot of what was wrong with Pau's game are things only Pau can fix. As long as we get the balance that you're referring to, I'd pull the trigger.

^ I posted a long analysis in the Blog section that breaks down exactly why Gasol won't be successful just because of Nash. Nash won't be able to MAKE Gasol go to the basket. That's all on Gasol.

I like Martin though he is a shell of his former self. But defending in spot minutes? He is still capable. I also value that nastiness Martin plays with. Like the late, great Cotton Fitzimmons said "you can't have all milk drinkers on your team..."

PF version of Matt Barnes? I mean, he's an idiot but in a limited role I think he could be very helpful. The Lakers are going to be defensively challenged when Howard isn't out there. Having a guy like Martin would go a long way to helping that.

Exactly. That is of course if he's willing to come for cheap and with the knowledge that he'll have a limited role on our team. I think he could provide some fantastic versatility and could really help our team out down low. A rotation of Howard/Gasol/Hill/Jamison/Martin and maybe even McRoberts... that's the best in the league EASILY.

Slide Jamison up to the 3 and play Martin at the 4 every now and then... Oh yes. Oh yes indeed.

We are going to need another big that can play some defense and Martin fits that bill, he would come for the cheap to because of being a contender and playing time.

Well.... so much for getting younger....

Now the "Trade" is Bynum and McRoberts for Howard..... I'm not that enthused anymore that we had to kick in a low cost high upside player like McRoberts and keep garbage like just about everyone else on the bench.....

Starting 5 a little better..... bench weaker..... even with "Lips".....

^ Brown has shown he won't play McBob anyway and for his pricetag, that's unacceptable.

K-Mart is significantly better defensively at multiple positions, Brown will actually play him.

I have to say that I hate K-Mart, but I do think his his energy and defense would help off the bench.
