Kevin Durant will be named MVP

Sources: Kevin Durant will be MVP

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant is expected to be named league MVP early next week, according to sources close to the situation.

Kevin Durant is poised to collect his first league MVP trophy, according to sources.
It had been widely anticipated throughout the league that Durant would earn the award for the first time in his career. The most likely scenario is a Monday or Tuesday news conference and a pregame ceremony Tuesday or Wednesday right before Game 1 of the second round of the Western Conference playoffs, provided that Durant's Thunder win their Game 7 at home Saturday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.

If the Thunder lose, chances are fans will have to wait a bit for the most uncomfortable MVP news conference since Dirk Nowitzki's in 2007. He was given the award after the Dallas Mavericks, who went 67-15 that season, were bounced in the first round by the Golden State Warriors.

Durant led the league in scoring with 32 points per game. He would become the first player to win both the scoring title and MVP award in the same season since Allen Iverson did it in 2000-01, according to ESPN's Stats & Information.

The NBA decided to take a week off from the awards circuit in the wake of the Donald Sterling scandal. Los Angeles Clippers guard Jamal Crawford is scheduled to receive his Sixth Man Award next week, and Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams will be named Rookie of the Year, according to ESPN and multiple reports.

It's a shame. We beat Portland in Portland. That MVP trophy is Meeks' damnit. :man2: :man2:

Is that his first?

I imagine it won't be his last one either.

ya not everybody gets robbed like Kobe. Its amazing how Kobe has only 1 MVP title while winning 5 championships and being the best player in the league for at least a decade.

At least the award has been more credible these latest years than when Steve Crap won as many MVPs as Kobe and Shaq

The award has become a popularity contest and a marketing tool by the league and its partners.

Durant's year was good but was it any better than LeBron's in value to his team? I'd say it's very very close.

Kobe didn't win because of Colorado..... The partners and the NBA can't have the MVP being dropped by league partners or other endorsers.

After the Colorado incident, Stern raped Kobe for years.

Durant is deserving of the MVP though. I don't see LeBron as being close, since he had lots of help on his team, while Durant carried his team to the best record for a big chunk of the season, while Westbrook was out no less.

Durant is such a talented player at his height. His game is much more complete IMO than LBJ's.

You don't think the HEAT could have won as many games as they did without LBJ? They didn't exactly have a stellar record. I think Durant was much more vital to his team's performance during the regular season than LeBron was.

The Heat w/o LeBron is an average team. Same with OKC without Durant. It's close but LBJ plays both ends of the floor at a high level. Durant is better offensively. Close….. no doubt.

Larger picture is that Durant is in need of being "pumped" by the NBA Marketing Machine. He's is a smaller market and his team hasn't taken the next step…. time for a brighter spotlight.

Lebron's defense is not high level Roo. He's noticeably regressed in that department this year.

^^Granted…. he did take a step back….. but Durant is not that great either.

LeBron is starting to go "Kobe" on defense in that he can play fantastic D only in spurts now it seems. He picks and chooses his times.

I don't have a huge problem with Durant winning….. he's deserving but not a "clear cut" winner IMHO. He's yet to take the next step that LeBron took 3 years ago. Beginning to wonder if he ever will.

My gripe with Lebron has, and always will be, the fact that people think he's doing what he's doing now, by himself.

Yep. The media machine has brainwashed everyone to focus on the individual. Magic versus Bird. MJ the best ever. LBJ the King.

The fans walk away with this messed up idea that MJ single-handedly won 6 titles, or that LBJ is the reason for Miami's success.

It's a team sport, and there shouldn't be an MVP award. Teams should get awards for best defense, or even best offense. There's no room for individual achievement.

Kobe Quote from back in the day that I saved:

"Maybe one day they'll be able to sit at my lunch table. Right now, we're at two different lunch tables."

:man10: Gotta love Kobe

Between, congrats KD

I agree, but I think it's in the basis of human want for a Greatest, or ONE leader, or something. Think about it, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, MJ, maybe ESPN wants LeBron to be the next greatest? The point is, there never will be the "greatest" human being, and that's probably partly why things like sports or other things aren't doing great, is because of the focus on "one" person. I agree, it's a team thing. In case of religion, it shouldn't be about one person or one group of people, it should be about the human race as a whole. In case of sports, it shouldn't be about MVP, it should only be about the championship.

Kevin Durant was the best player over the regular season and it wasn't close. It was especially evident after he carried OKC after Westbrook got injured. Lebron was coasting, especially on defense this season, and couldn't take over games the way Durant was doing.

What i'm wondering though is how the hell did James Haren finish 5th?

It wasn't close at all statistically. Kevin Durant was amazing this entire season. He's not done yet. That article clowning him was the best thing that ever happened. It'll only make him want to work harder and become better and he's only 26.
