Key USA basketball notables

This link has it all:
http://www.hoopshype.com/olympic/teams.htm

The above link has all the teams, all the players, what positions they play, and comments made to the players.

However, I want to clarify...

Argentina:
Guys they have on the NBA: Emanuel Ginobili, Pepe Sanchez, Ruben Wolkowyski, Luis Scola (un-signed)
Potential threats to US: Emanuel Ginobili, Pepe Sanchez, Luis Scola
Outlook: no 7-footers on team. Excels offensively.

Brazil:
Guys they have in NBA: Leadrinho Barbosa, Nene Hilario
Potential threats to US: Leadrinho Barbosa, Nene Hilario, Tiago Splitter, Anderson Varejao
Outlook: mostly scoring, but has defense with Varejao and Hilario. No 7-footers.

Canada:
Guys they have in NBA: Steve Nash
Potential threats to US: Rowan Barrett, Steve Nash, Prospei Karangwa
Outlook: Very undersized. Not really a talented core besides Nash. Can't even get Rick Fox and Jamaal Magloire on the team.

Mexico:
Guys they have in NBA: Eduardo Najera
Potential threats to US: Eduardo Najera, Enrique Zuniga, Horacio Llamas
Outlook: A nice core of players. But if your star's Eduardo Najera, you won't win games.

Puerto Rico:
Guys they have in NBA: Carlos Arroyo, Daniel Santiago
Potential threats to US: Basically the whole team outlook is good
Outlook: Looks like a promising, talented mesh of players. A lot of great comments on the players.

United States:
Guys they have in NBA: All
Outlook: What else? With all these great players (except Collison), they're likely to steamroll the rest of the other teams

Uruguay:
Guys in NBA: None
Potential threats to US: Marcel Bauzaut, Trelonnie Owens, Nicolas Mazzarino
Outlook: Way too undersized. No guys in the NBA. They won't go very far.

Venezuela:
Guys in NBA: Oscar Torres (formerly)
Potential threats to US: Miguel Marriaga, Oscar Torres, Diego Guevarra
Outlook: A more than decent team. Has the players and chemistry and may prove to be a formidable opponent to the US.

Virgin Islands:
Guys in NBA: Raja Bell
Potential Threats to US: Raja Bell, David Vanterpool, Kevin Sheppard
Outlook: Just a decent team. No real star. Too bad Tim Duncan joined the US instead of the Virgin Islands.

Here's the schedule: http://www.hoopshype.com/olympic/schedule.htm

And here's the standings:
http://www.hoopshype.com/olympic/standings.htm

Analysis: It looks like w/out Yugoslavia, the U.S. may have it much easier this year. Venezuela and Argentina may present formidable challenges, though, and look for Puerto Rico to step it up. If Duncan was in the Virgin Islands, that team would also had been formidable. Look for the U.S. to steamroll every other team until they win the gold medal.

they got over confident, because they had not lost in forever, and I'm pretty sure it was Argentina

Good Info ... Thanks. :pipe:

But one question ... Where does that Yugoslavia line come from?

Cause this is a qualifying tournament for the Americas I believe ... Yugoslavia doesn't have anything to do with it.

This is just to qualify for the Olympics I think ... it's not the World Championships like the last time when we lost.

Mexico beat Argentina, not bad for only having Eduardo Najera!!!

The silver medalist at last summer's World Championships -- with a 91-89 victory behind 20 points from Eduardo Najera of the Dallas Mavericks.
