Surprised he didn't go to the clippers.

Marc J. Spears ‏@SpearsNBAYahoo

Mavericks career for Melvin Ely and Chris Douglas-Roberts didn't last past the weekend as they were both waived.

:man3:

Why did Cuban even sign them in the first place? The ink didn't even dry before they were let go.

That's strange. He just wanted to give those guys some cash?

Or was he basically threatening West to stay focused? He still hasn't waived West to my knowledge. Maybe he brought them in thinking he would keep CDR and waive West. Now he's had second thoughts and he's keeping West?

By signing them, he got their rights and now they can send them to the Dallas affiliate in the D-League owning their rights.

I can understand cutting Goudelock but CDR actually played in the league and had some success... I wanted to see him make the team. Oh well.

Blame our former coach for that.

We could use him now.

If they're not going to use Ebanks over the DUI issue they might as well try and trade him and pick up CDR.

This is Brown's last parting gift to us, the Potato Head keeps on giving. CDR is not a star, but he could have been a great bench player for us, no reason for him to be cut over even a guy like DJO.

why we haven't picked him up after Ebanks DUI is beyond me.. he'd be solid off our bench.

How can you blame Mike Brown for that when DJO played less than CDR did during preseason? And when Mitch is the one making that decision?

^^ I agree with Lakerswiz on this one as discussed in the other LD thread. I blame Brown for plenty of things, but not this decision which was obviously based on having so many guaranteed contracts this year already.

Brown should get some of the blame too. Wasn't he the one that didn't want too many free agents because they would new to the system?

I'm not blaming Brown, but indirectly, at the very least, he played a role. If we had 'Antoni to start the season CDR being young and relatively athletic would have gotten more playing time and a chance to shine in preseason, and IMO most likely he makes the team over at least DJO if not also Ebanks. So no, Brown didn't cut him, but I do believe losing him was another casualty of Brown's stupid system holding all of our players back. CDR even in that garbage system surrounded by a garbage bench lineup thrown out there by Brown, still looked decent, showed his athleticism and hustle, and I believe under a real coach he would have looked even better and made the team. It's not a huge deal, it's over with, but it's a bad example of us getting rid of a useful player in favor of players that won't ever play.

I agree with Weezy, if CDR had been allowed to play during the preseason, he might have shown mgmt something and maybe they may have been persuaded to cough up a couple more dollars. You never know.

He was allowed to play some decent minutes during a few games. The system was terrible though, even Nash looked bad and he played with some horrible lineups that had no chance of looking good, in that system or otherwise. With the right coach, put in position to succeed, I believe CDR is a guy that could have earned a spot, he'll even Morris looks like an NBA player now.
