LBJ Places MJ, Dr. J, Bird In His Top-3 Players Of All Time

LeBron James was asked in an interview with Fox Sports 1 to name his best three basketball players of all-time.

James quickly responded with Michael Jordan and hesitated for several seconds before including Julius Erving and Larry Bird.

Many historians of the game put several of basketball's best big men in the top-3, but James clearly was leaning toward all-around players with his list.

MJ is a no brainer, Bird is a great choice but no disrespect to Dr. J. He was great back in the day. But Dr. J over Magic?

Is this list his favorite or best 3 players? It kind of makes a big difference. If it's his favorite 3, then I guess the 80s had a huge impact on his basketball life for some reason.

If it's best 3 players....Dr J, while forgotten and underrated, doesn't really belong in the top 3.

Yeah, I felt Bron was tripping with his list. I was waiting for him to peel off the names Kareem, Magic, MJ, in some type of order. Bird and Doc J, to 3? I can't get with that.

Lists are always cool to debate/discuss. But if Kareem and Magic aren't in the top 3 of anyone's list, I'm inclined to stop listening to their basketball opinion on that topic. Philosophically, they cover all the major criteria that you might want to build for a top 3-5 list.

Well you knew he wasn't going to put Kobe in there.

I can rattle off Kareem, Magic, and MJ without hesitation.

well Lebron made the list so it must be the greatest list of all time

Dr J was underrated in a lot of ways but top 3?.... nope. Bird was amazing and not rated as high as he should be in some respects but again I'm not sure I can get behind him in the top 3. MJ is obviously there.

These lists always come down to a bunch of factory that are very debatable. As most know here I'm not a big fan of team accomplishments in the final evaluation of these lists. Innovation and re-definition of a position is something that moves the game forward. Only Jordan fits that bill of these 3.

My guess is that he may not have answered the question he was asked... they all play his position basically so that may be where his head was at when he answered it.

For real I don't think I have EVER seen anyone put Dr. J on the top of the alltime great list. He was a bad man but really Bron..... Really? Maybe the hairline is pressing on his brain a bit.

AGree.

It is sad that he didn't play during the internet / ESPN era. As high as I rank him, even I didn't see his ABA days. But he was amazing. Jordan definitely borrowed a great deal of his game from the good doctor.

Lebron basically picked 3 wing players.

I wonder if he heard the question wrong.

That's fine; I'll just draft Magic, Kobe, and Kareem and see who wins 3 on 3.

I don't think he did. He begged to have a 4th option and picked a point guard - Magic.

Choosing 3 is pretty tough. I think I would go with MJ, Magic, and the third player being a toss-up between Kareem and Shaq.

But damn, Kobe should be in there too :man2:

I really want to contribute to this thread but , goodness, it's hard for me to do so without seeming as though i'm bashing Lebron. I truly wonder about his ...mindset . Yeah..mindset is preferable to the other word i was going to use. This list was courtesy of a man who thought it was appropriate and humorous to fart in front of a reporter and waiter/waitress repeatedly while reportedly treating the waiter/waitress like crap.

Can't say that is true Time. Remember all the talking heads and experts at ESPN saying Lebron needed to be the President of the Players Union because he is not only the best player in the game but the smartest too. Who are we to argue with those people?
