Lebron wins 4th MVP in last 5 years

MIAMI -- The worst-kept secret among NBA award recipients will be formally revealed Sunday when Miami Heat star LeBron James is named Most Valuable Player for the fourth time, league sources confirmed Friday.

James has been voted MVP for the second straight season and for the fourth time in the past five years. He'll join Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain with at least four MVP awards.

The only suspense remaining is in the final tally and how far James has distanced himself in the voting from other candidates this season that include Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Yeah, pretty much indisputable. It's annoying that so much of his efficiency improvement are a direct result of having such a ridiculously strong team, specifically in terms of players who can create their own offense, but regardless of the circumstances, no one else is doing what Lebron is doing, and it's not really close. Though I think you can make a good argument for Durant, it's a better one for Lebron, is the point.

He's still one of the biggest chumps to ever play the game though.

Not sure if anyone can "qualify" this..... He's pretty far ahead of the next closest IMO

They're gonna keep pre-determining it for him every season until he gets more than MJ, qualifications for MVP are now obsolete. It's now the LeBron V P until someone else impresses them.

Meh, just a pointless award as far as I'm concerned that analysts will use down the line to try and put him above Kobe. By my definition he is not most valuable to his team, remembering this is a regular season award, and that when he sits "injured" (to rest for playoffs) his team keeps winning because they are deep and really good. But whatever, he wins it before seasons even start and it's a media voted award, that's all I need to know. Yeah, I'm hating, that's all I can do at this point. :man10:

So...now being the favorite is called being predetermined? :man3:

He's the best player. He's been the best player. Until someone can knock him off in terms of impact, stats, and wins, he'll keep winning it.

The NBA must be pretty weak then....

But no guys. It's not right to compare eras and see who had it harder?

LeBron's had it easy. The media has helped him out so much...

^You saying it wasn't predetermined? If it was about the "best player" then why doesn't Kobe have 4 MVP's himself? He was the best in the NBA carrying a bunch of scrubs well beyond their capabilities. Yet, he got 1. Apparently Lebron plays with a bunch of scrubs and has to carry that team of fringe players. LBJ is great and I am not saying he isn't the MVP but everyone knows the award was given before the season started.

I don't think the media calls him the favorite, I think they say it's his award to lose. That to me says they aren't really even looking at other players seriously, they're making other guys have to impress more than LeBron and that's just not gonna happen with as good as he is and with the team he has. IMO the award should be about really looking around for guys that are being the most valuable to their team for a season, looking for special seasons, not just giving it to the best player on the best team every season. But yeah by the criteria now LeBron is gonna win every season pretty much.

Wow..... Sour grapes! :man10:

He's been the best player in the league for a few years. In the last two years he's filled in just about all the holes he had. I wish our physically gifted player was getting better at something..... After all he is on a fairly talented team too..... :man1:

I don't see any one close in terms of overall value..... To me Kobe is second but he can no longer do it at both ends at the same time.... It's either-or these days.

Couple things.....

1.) Lebron was clearly the best player this season. Does that define Most Valuable? By the media's standards these days yes, but the Heat still were winning ball games even when Lebron was sitting out at the end of the season. Best player without question, Most Valuable you're on a slipper slope IMO.

2.) This is just a weak time in basketball for truly great players. There is a transition between the old guys about reading to hang them up and the young pups that aren't quite ready to take the next step to superstar level. Lebron just so happens to fit in neither category as he is in his prime and is playing at an extremely high level compared to everyone else.

Actually, the past 2 years the media has wanted to give it to Durant.

He just hasn't done 'enough' to overcome what Lebron has been doing.

And no need to bring Kobe into this.

how silly is the drose mvp going to look twenty years from now?

and I agree with others: it's not even close. I like Durant much more than LeBron, but it's not close. I'm as big a kobe supporter as I think is reasonable, and it's laughable to compare the two at this point.

I hate saying it, and I still think he's a coward for joining forces with wade and bosh instead of competing against wade like a real man would have done, but facts are facts.

When has KD been the Media favorite, ever? Lebron has been the favorite for the MVP ever since he went to Miami. It didn't matter if he built a superteam or not because it was Lebron. KD was always talked about highly but the media used the "westbrook/Harden" package against him. Yes, KD had all the help and Lebron has to carry around scrubs.

It is funny how easily fans just roll with the media machine. Media says, OMG look at Lebron and we all go oooooh. The way it is being played Lebron is playing with Smush parker (instead of Wade), Kwame (instead of Bosh), Vlad-Rad (instead of Ray Allen), Farmar (instead of Cole)..... should I continue? Only LBJ could make people deminish his teammates to make him even greater. The guy deserves the MVP but it isn't, in my opinion at least, some landslide run away forgone conclusion every year like it seems.

You are right we shouldn't bring Kobe into this because we know what Kobe did has been done before.....oh wait. NVM. All hail the King

I don't really like LeBron, nor do I like the inmense amount of praise and hype he's gotten since he's been in the league, but he deserved it this year.

Sour grapes? Absolutely, I hate LeBron. :man10: I don't like that other guys that carry their teams aren't even considered, and that it's just given to LeBron in training camp. As far as the regular season goes, other teams that would go absolutely nowhere without their stars and with them are top tier teams, there are a few. Without these players, their teams would struggle to make a top seed if not the playoffs , Durant, Chris Paul (Clippers suuuuck without him in the regular season, and remember, playoffs don't factor into this), Melo. Look LeBron deserves the award, by the set criteria, but you take him off Miami, and IMO they're a top 4 team in the East still with that roster.

And no I'm not bringing up Kobe, because we suuuucked this season and your team has to be good to win MVP.

this award isnt even worth following with lebron playing right now. Hes playing a level above everyone else but hes not the most valuable person to his team.. they are still pretty damn good without him

he has proven he can carry and win with a god awful team with cleveland though..didnt win a title but routinely made them a contender

I have zero issues with his Cleveland MVPs, that is my definition, he carried those teams. I have no real problem
with these either as it fits the historic criteria, it's just funny that the criteria can change to fit LeBron. It was guys who make their team go with Nash, Kobe, Dirk, LeBron in Cleveland, and Rose, now it's back to best player on best team. It's also funny to me still that the day he chose Miami the entire media was saying over and over "well he just gave up ever winning MVP awards again, you can't be MVP with another top 5 player next to you and on a superteam". They also said he could never be Jordan now because he left to join great players instead of staying and winning in Cleveland, which was a stupid thing to say as Jordan had a lot of help, but they did say it for at least months. And here we are 3 years later and they forgot all about that.
