SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Los Angeles Lakers' power forward Karl Malone, grief-stricken over the death of his mother, will not rejoin the U.S. Olympic qualifying team. Kenyon Martin of the New Jersey Nets was chosen Tuesday as his replacement.

Malone should rest and train for the upcoming Lakers season.

I don't want him playing in the Summer for the qualifying team and risk getting hurt. I'd rather have him rest and come strong this season. Remember, he is 40 years old.

very good point i agree with u on that one!

And i think KG declined playin for the U.S. this summer much like Shaq did. I really wanna see Shaq KG Duncan Bryant Mcgrady Iverson and Kidd all on the ACTUAL olympic team. THen we would truly be unstoppable!

im honestly fairly surprised that theres this much interest in Team USA QUALIFYING round... i mean... they're still missing the top 2 players in the game form the team

they're also missing one of the top 2 PGs in the game...

o well, we can watch all 3 of them all season long this season =P

Iverson is not really a point guard although he is in the top 5 in the NBA, but we need payton garnett kobe and shaq too
