Good friends with Dwight so I assume this is one of those moves to appease him.

Even if it wasn't, I still like this move. Everyone keeps talking about we need to get young and I agree but I think that notion is somewhat overplayed. We need energy, passion, toughness, and movement. He brings all that.

Barnes and Morrow would be 2 great signings.

I don't see us using that on one player unless Metta is amnestied.

It's strictly vet min for backup players.

I believe Mitch has already mentioned this.

+1

he played great for the lakers when he didnt get injured.. obviously his injuries hurt his game a bunch, but id love to see him back. a lot of people are recalling his disappearance in the playoffs, but again, that was AFTER his injuries.

imagine a lineup that included a healthy barnes, clark, and hill.. we'd be getting every loose ball on the court lol

Why not? Because he's 33, gets injured every season, and vanished in the playoffs both years he was here.

And as soon as he comes back here he'll break down as usual, almost guaranteed. It's time to get younger.

i definitely agree it's time to get younger, but im not exactly sure who would want to come here for the money we're able to offer. still wouldnt mind having barnes as a backup 3 though.

so you're saying although he was healthy and made a huge impact on the Clippers last year, now he is going to break down and fall apart? How is a younger player going to avoid injury any differently than Barnes?

When people say we need to get young it's not about our ancillary role players, although that our bench does need energy/speed. It's about having an old core. Kobe/Nash/Metta/Pau are all old. We need to get younger within the starting positions. Miami has an old bench and that worked out fine.

Because we're stuck with such an older core, we need to try and that with some young legs, but Barnes is not a guy that plays old or slow. Besides, he's a role player. Role players are always coming and going. We're not going to find some miracle role player who's young and wants to stay here forever and still brings the level of experience needed to win a rings. Look how Danny Green and Gary Neal fizzled out.

Yes, I do for some crazy reason believe he will break down with nagging injuries again here, and disappear in the playoffs like he did both seasons here. I don't believe or very good season with the Clippers means he's great all of a sudden. For the vet mimimum though, as a backup (to a better player than MWP), we could do worse.

There's no "Laker curse"; it's just bad luck.

Also, Miami and SA both have a bunch of old guys and they both went to the Finals. How did they make it work?

There's no need to get younger for the sake of getting younger. We need guys who can play defense, make smart decisions, and fill their roles well.

Wouldn't mind bringing him back as long as it's for the minimum.. Just hope he isn't the only SF they plan on bringing in. Have to get a Wright/Brewer/Morrow/Delfino with the mini mle & have Barnes back them up.

I never really got the Barnes hate around here. He's been one the best minimum guys we've had in years, and he plays hard every night. He had a good motor, was great on the boards, and was an excellent cutter. Sure he had a broken jump shot, and got injured. But come on, you all know it was a mistake letting him go. Ebanks was an embarrassment, and Metta basically ended up as our only 3. That is unacceptable.

It was really frustrating seeing him play well as a Clipper.

What the H!!! If this refers to Matt he plays damn athletic and has quick hops and a nose for putting the ball in the basket and getting out on the break. Look at Steph Curry with his habitually bad ankles. Again.... Matt had the misfortune of bad sprains right before the playoffs both years with us and did reasonably very good in them last year. Young, athletic, young, athletic. Wooo effing hoo most of the time they disappear in the playoffs.

He really wasn't that inconsistant though. His jumper was, but you could almost always count on him to contribute in other ways before he got injured. I also have to add that besides Kobe, basically nobody brought it during those two playoff runs.

I'm not even that high on Matt, but sadly he was our best bench player in 2011/12. If he's at the end of our rotation next season, I think that will be a good fit.
