Beating a dead horse here but as it relates to Barnes ... And even guys like Fisher, Luke, Sasha, Farmar, Turiaf, and Odom
You joke but Odom and Turiaf are still better than Sacre, Fisher was still better than Duhon and Morris last year, and both Farmar and Sasha are more useful nba level players than Meeks, Ebanks, and Goudelock. Barnes is better than them all based on last year play. They would all be upgrades. Hell Luke would have been an upgrade over Morris, Duhon, Ebanks, and Sacre based upon his Cavs play.
Filling the bench out with them on one year vet min deals to preserve the 2014 plan if you're not spending or committing years, is better than bringing the bums from last year back sadly, largely better because they are all more talented, all produced better, and all have won or competed at high levels. If we can't get help and we may not because we aren't trying to commit salary or years to people, we may need to make some amends and bring back in some familiarity across the damn board triangle or no triangle as it was a sad day when you say Luke Walton was easily better than our scrubs we had to play so much last year
As for Matt
1. He made 900k last year, he can get more than that here. Hell to be a Laker he turned down close to 10mil and 3 guaranteed years from Cleveland, so he wanted to win and play for Phil, with Kobe
2. He never wanted to leave Brown, favored Ebanks over him from camp last year and made it personal, he said as much on twitter that he was told by brown he had no plans to use him in his exit meeting. He also said he was never told why he didn't play to start last year, why he went from bench to starter, or why he got benched again, Brown just said well things change
3. If Barnes would have been here last year, Kobe would have had a damn backup. Metta would have had a damn backup. A backup with swingman size, who hits the glass hard, and provided the bench with most its production the season before. It was incompetence by management and coaching to let him go and keep Ebanks or Morris and ignore e glaring swingman hole on the roster, the glaring perigee defense hole, the glaring rebounding hole from the wing aside from Kobe, all of which letting Barnes to caused, as well as the fa that without Barned Kobe logged a lot of 44 plus minute nights and Metta was in the top 10 for players over 30 in minutes.
The way Brown screwed with Barnes is same way Dantoni screwed with Jamison. It wasnt needed and it hurt the team overall to be playing with their roles all the time when they were obviously bringing more than the other bench
