Yahoo Sports: Thomas, who replaced embattled GM Scott Layden earlier this week, laid down the law Friday night before New York took on Memphis in the opener of the trip.
"This isn't charity,'' Thomas said. "This is a business, and it's a very tough business we're in and a very public business we're in. We all get paid a lot of money to do what we need to do. If you can't do it, we've got to find somebody else.
"Right now, we need people who can do it.''
One of Thomas' first moves this week was to activate forward Michael Sweetney, who was the ninth pick in the draft. In nine games, he's averaging 1.3 points and didn't play in eight others while active.
"Quite frankly, I don't think we're that good that we can have the (ninth) pick in the draft on (the injured list),'' Thomas said. "We can get an opportunity to see him and also have some flexibility with our roster so we can keep trying to improve this team. ...We don't like where we are.''
