This guy hit so many momentum changing/game saving 3's for the Heat the past two seasons. It will be interesting to see where they get that from next season.

Ray Allen if he can stay healthy will be their next Mike Miller... And Battier's dirty corpse is still shuffling around the court for them too.

Cavaliers Considering An Amnesty Waiver Bid For Mike Miller

Cavaliers Considering An Amnesty Waiver Bid For Mike Miller

The Cleveland Cavaliers are strongly considering making an amnesty waiver bid to claim former Miami Heat forward Mike Miller, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Miami used the amnesty provision to free itself of the $12.8 million left on Miller's contract over the next two seasons. The decision will save the Heat significant money in luxury-tax payments, but the organization is still responsible for paying the balance of Miller's contract.

Cleveland has made several free-agency signings, including center Andrew Bynum, guard Jarrett Jack and forward Earl Clark, with a focus on returning to the playoffs next season. Miller is close friends with LeBron James, and the Cavaliers are planning to make a run to re-sign him in 2014 free agency.

Any team with salary-cap space can place a blind bid to claim the player, with the highest bid securing him. Teams can claim the player's full salary but must have available cap room or they can place a partial bid with their available cap space. For example, if Cleveland places a bid for $2 million on Miller – and it's the highest – the Cavaliers would be responsible for paying $2 million per season of the money left on Miller's contract. Miami would have to pay the rest.

The deadline for placing a waiver bid for Miller is 5 p.m. ET Thursday.

If Miller goes unclaimed in the process, he's a free agent and eligible to sign everywhere except back with Miami. Miller played a significant role in the Heat's back-to-back NBA championships and run to three straight Finals appearances.

Miller, 33, has played 12 NBA seasons, including stops with Orlando, Memphis, Minnesota, Washington and Miami. Despite several pivotal performances for Miami in key playoff and Finals games over the past two years, injuries often kept him out of the lineup, or playing hurt.

Just shows the NBA first and foremost is a business, guy played huge in these last 2 finals. But then again he looks like he is in pain on the court, guys back is done. Over paid as well, I get the move by MIA, be interested to see what the Cavs offer. I wouldn't offer more than 2.5-3.

Guess they need a new player who can't move since they let go of Luke Walton.

He's one of the few Heat players that I respect. He's so broken down though. I hope that he considers retirement. He's actually a pretty nice guy, I met him during the 2010 finals and I jokingly told him to sign with the Lakers.

Marc Stein of ESPN wrote:The Denver Nuggets have emerged as a new suitor at the forefront of the free-agent pursuit of Mike Miller, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Nuggets are now getting strong consideration from Miller along with the early frontrunners in the race to sign him: Oklahoma City and Memphis.

Miller, according to sources, met face-to-face Friday with new Grizzlies owner Robert Pera and CEO Jason Levien after an earlier sitdown with Thunder general manager Sam Presti. Sources said that Thunder All-Star Kevin Durant and Grizzlies All-Star Marc Gasol have both taken an active role in recruiting Miller, who has received interest from a number of contenders after being released earlier this week by the Miami Heat via the amnesty provision.

The Nuggets have joined the hunt, sources said, with the promise of minutes at the wing positions after losing two key performers in that department -- Andre Iguodala and Corey Brewer -- in free agency.

Most of the teams pursuing Miller are offering a minimum salary but pitching the opportunity to take on a prominent role as a perimeter specialist on a championship contender.

The Houston Rockets, sources said, have also made Miller an offer that the 33-year-old is considering.

Despite his role in helping Miami win back-to-back championships, Miller was amnestied Tuesday in a financially motivated move that will save the Heat as much as $17 million on luxury-tax payments next season. They still owe him $12.8 million in salary over the next two seasons.

Miller averaged just 4.8 points while shooting 42 percent from 3-point range during the regular season for Miami. But he played a big role for the Heat in the NBA Finals, shooting 61 percent from 3-point range and starting the last four games.

Shortly after rumblings began to circulate Wednesday night that the Cleveland Cavaliers were interested in claiming Miller off waivers, reports of the veteran forward needing back surgery or even considering retirement arose. Despite dealing with bulging disks in his back throughout the 2011-12 season, Miller wound up playing in 59 games this past season, for his highest total since 2008-09.

Earlier this week, Miller said he was feeling healthy and looking forward to next season, telling the South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "I'm excited about the next spot. I'm re-energized. I really am. I'm just feeling healthy. I'm ready to play. I started to get back in [the gym] again last week and I can't wait to play again next year."

Miller would help OKC..... if he's healthy.

Great pickup for Memphis because they need shooters. I felt thats what really kept them from advancing further into the Playoffs.

They definitely need shooting on that roster. If he's healthy, he'll help them out.

we'll see if it works. whoever picked him up needs to be able to mothball him for the entire year like Miami did. Memphis needs shooters consistently, imo.
