It translated for about 1/3 of the season, then it all went down hill from there.

i like metta. and it's not my money, so i'd prefer he stayed. the lakers probably won't be able to upgrade from him using the mini mle, anyway. all amnesty does is save the buss fortune a bit.

and he'd be foolish to opt out, imo. even a three-year deal won't allow him to recoup the 10 million or so he'd be losing.

Hung out with Metta today and played beach football as usual. We didnt talk much about the Lakers lol but he was rooting against the Spurs like crazy because his brother likes them and because they swept us. His son is only 14 (red shirt) but hes gotten crazy tall with the last few years. Great athlete, but not sure if hes interested in sports. Just thought I'd share some pictures

Him opt out just helps jim. We will save money but we won't get a full mle cuz we will still be over the lux tax. Also since his contract expires it is not a big deal.

This I disagree with. It is a big deal because Ron playing 30+ minutes a night absolutely kills this team.

With him gone, Ebanks gone, we have no SF. We HAVE to get a replacement and if it is a guy that can space the floor and play defense, it's an upgrade.

If he opts out, I would be surprised. The language in his twitter makes you think he is going too, though. Doesn't he have until June 27to make a decision? Guess we'll find out soon enough...

Man I hope he opts out, I'm grateful for his contribution to the 2010 title and his playing hard for us every season, but it's time to move on. We need to get younger and more athletic at that position and as long as he's here he's going to take up most of the minutes there because he's still a former all star, and still has game and such.

Metta World Peace is staying put with the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, the veteran small forward will play out the final year of his contract (worth $7.7 million) rather than exercise the early termination option on his deal. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the decision had not yet been made public.

World Peace had until Tuesday to make his decision, and the lack of clarity that surrounded him in Laker Land made his process all the more problematic. Lakers center and free-agent-to-be Dwight Howard has still not indicated whether he will re-sign or head elsewhere, and World Peace had considered opting out in order to become a free agent rather than take part in these unstable Lakers times.

But while signs remain that Howard may be heading to the Houston Rockets, World Peace is better off opting for the security that comes with the final year of his deal rather than opting out. At 33 years old and 14 seasons into his career, the player formerly known as Ron Artest saw his offensive production rise in his first year under Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni (from 7.7 points and 7.3 shots per game in 2011-12 to 12.4 points and 11 shots per game last season).

World Peace came to the Lakers as a free agent in 2009 and was a key part of their championship team that season. After having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee late last season, he made a remarkable recovery and played just 12 days later. His return helped the Lakers make their playoff push, but he struggled in three games against the San Antonio Spurs during a first-round sweep.

Uh, no, opting in doesn't mean he'll play out his final year here or is "staying put with the Lakers". I HOPE it means he will be amnestied, he's gotta go. And if he doesn't, combined with 'Antoni staying, IMO we've given up on this season before it starts. And if Dwight leaves, and we cling to this 2014 plan, we really have given up, we'll have ancient Pau, injured Kobe, ancient Nash, and a crap bench. Moves need to be made, huge decisions affecting the future of the franchise need to be made.
