A Clippers fan and a Lakers fan? Ugh.

Of course. I support all LA teams.

how can you root for a team who's fanbase hates the Lakers?

Easy. I view the Clips as the younger brother who could never do anything right and the Lakers as the big brother who had it all. How can i not be happy for the Clips now that they are having success? I've never understood this whole pick a side thing. If you are from LA, you should root for both. Now if it comes down to a playoff series, that's a different story.

fan card....dismissed :man10:
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

While the Knicks were hated in my home from my first solid memories of tasting defeat in the 1970 finals when my dad practically killed our living room radio, I am very happy for Ron getting a chance in his home town.
I will root for them while Ron is there (and in part because they need to knock off Miami).

Ron has made aplace for himself in Laker Lore even with only 4 yrs service. Like some others before, Eddie, McAdoo, Lucius, I remember them as Lakers at the heart even though they did many other things with other teams. Ron is right up there as one of my non-star faves.

I think you might be the only fan in sports history who ever had that opinion. Ask Yankee fans if they root for the Mets. Or how about Jets fans if they root for the Giants as well. Never heard of such a thing in my life.

The Original 81,

Like I said, I view it like all of the LA teams are like my children and I naturally want them to have success. That's not to say I follow every LA team closely. Just saying that if they do well, I cheer them on. For instance the LA Kings in hockey. I could care less about hockey but I liked the fact that they won it all.

I grew up a die hard Magic and Laker fan in the 80's. And will always bleed purple and gold until I die. But that doesn't mean I am not excited about little brother finally having some success in the Clips.

More like your distant, dorky cousin who shows up at the family party and makes everyone say "wtf?'. Now he has new threads, a nice car and is noticed :man10: How long it lasts remains TBD.

Now that added my dos centavos, back on topic...I can't wait to see World Peace back at Staples and looking forward to the warm reception from the fans in attendance. It will be like how Odom was received when he returned as a Maverick.
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.

actually that's not the worse move in the world.

If they are going to continue melo at the 4...then artest at the 3 helps on defense. Artest has ZERO probelm guarding the likes of david west or other tough PFs as artest is a brick wall which was kind of the knicks downfall.
Strikemode14 is the greatest.

So long Ron and good luck in NY!

Cemented himself in Lakers history with that game winning put-back vs the Suns and the huge 3 in game 7 vs Boston.

Very glad for Ron, and for us. Did NOT want to see him play for the Paper Clips or the CHEAT or any other team I can't stand. Looking forward to watching him on the Knicks actually. But Ron Ron - you'll always be a Laker to me!

Mark Medina of the LA Daily News wrote:Less than a week removed from officially ending his time with the Lakers, Metta World Peace stepped foot Friday on the set of Hallmark Channel’s “Home and Family” at Universal Studios as if nothing had changed at all.

World Peace maintained his gracious and joyful personality. In between segments, various actors and producers continuously thanked World Peace for his four seasons with the Lakers, where he guided the Lakers to an 2010 NBA championship, raised funds for mental health charities and kept everyone laughing along the way. At no point did World Peace sound bitter surrounding the circumstances that led to the Lakers waiving him through the amnesty provision.

For one, World Peace said he feels “blessed” for signed with the New York Knicks to a two-year deal worth $3.2 million, The former Ron Artest grew up in the Queensbridge section of New York and played at St. John’s University. World Peace also insisted with a straight face that it was “smart” for the Lakers to cut ties with him, a cost-cutting move that saved them as much as $15 million in luxury taxes.

“I think it’s a good move,” World Peace said in an interview with this newspaper. “If I was the franchise, it’s different. But not being the franchise, they have to make a decision.”

Shedding ties with World Peace didn’t give the Lakers additional cap flexibility to acquire another player. The Lakers have only filled his void by signing former USC standout Nick Young to a two-year deal at the veteran’s minimum. He’s considered a vast offensive upgrade to World Peace, whose 9.94 points in four seasons with the Lakers came on 40.2 percent shooting. But World Peace’s absence coupled with Dwight Howard’s departure to the Houston Rockets leaves the Lakers seriously vulnerable on defense.

When told of that reality, World Peace said, “But things weren’t clicking.”

Despite committing to a $100 million payroll, overlapping injuries as well as competing coach and player agendas contributed to the Lakers’ first-round sweep to the San Antonio Spurs. World Peace actually became one of the few bright spots. His improved conditioning contributed to World Peace averaging 12.4 points, his highest output with the Lakers, and providing consistent energy. But World Peace remained limited when he returned 12 days after having surgery to treat torn cartilage on his left knee. World Peace averaged only six points a game and shot 25 percent in the playoffs.

“I thought I was going to finish my career as a Laker,” World Peace said. “But sometimes it doesn’t work that way.”

What does he think?

“They saved more money,” World Peace said. “But if it was me, I would’ve made a bold decision and saved more money.”

The Lakers could’ve used the amnesty provision on Kobe Bryant (makes $30.5 million next season), Pau Gasol ($19.3 million) or Steve Blake ($4 million) since they were on the roster before the NBA constructed its new labor deal in 2011.

“I would’ve amnestied everybody,” World Peace said with clear sarcasm. “It depends on what you’re trying to do. Kobe is the franchise so you can’t amnesty him. I would’ve made a bold decision. I won’t tell you who I would’ve amnestied. But they did it right and did what they had to do.”

So if World Peace would’ve ensured the Lakers save a lot of money, would he have waived Bryant?

“I didn’t say that loser,” World Peace said, laughing.

Glad Metta's kept such a great attitude through all this, understands and agrees with LA's decision regarding his contract. Makes the move back to LA after his stint in NY, in whatever capacity he wants, more likely.

Yup....definitely was referring to Pau Gasol....

I'm very very happy for MWP though...I was about to kick him in the nuts if he signed with the PaperClips though....that woulda left most if not all Lakers fans SALTY...i wouldn't have liked it at all.

He's going to help the Knicks big time...He's exactly what they needed...a tough guy that can defend multiple positions and he will push Melo, Amare and Bargnani in practice. He's also a guy that historically has defended Paul Pierce quite well....can't wait to see him out there with the Knicks.
