Zach Randolph and Brendan Haywood Paying the Bills for Struggling Families

Great charitable gestures out of big men Zach Randolph and Brendan Haywood — they’re picking up the tab for some needy families in their respective towns, thereby ensuring that the lights and heat stay on in dozens of homes. Per MyFoxMemphis and the Charlotte Observer: “Come from single parent home, mom was on welfare, struggled myself so I know what it’s like,’ Randolph said. ‘Been fortunate, blessed. Just like to give back because I think this something the Lord has served me to do, give back, brings me blessings in other ways. I’m here to tell you you’re a blessing to me.’ RAndolph donated $20,000 to Metropolitan Inter-Faith ASsociation (MIFA) to be allocated to 100 homes in the Memphis area, as part of their MLGW Plus-1 program, which is a program administered by MIFA to pay utility services for those in need.’ [...] Ariana Cancel, 30, is looking forward to moving out of the Salvation Army homeless shelter in a couple of weeks and settling into her own three-bedroom East Charlotte apartment with her five children. Still, she has some concerns about the future. She wants to ensure she’ll be able to pay all of her bills while also providing for her children and studying to become a certified nursing assistant. ‘I’m overwhelmed. I can’t wait,’ she said. ‘I’ve been saving money.’ Now, with the help of Charlotte Bobcats center Brendan Haywood, Cancel and 14 other women will have one less bill to worry about for a year. On Sunday, Haywood surprised the women at the Center of Hope homeless shelter with news that he is going to pay their electric bills for the upcoming year.”

Wonderful :)

Although i'm sure more contribute in their own way privately i wish more NBA players did things like this and made it public. Guys like Zach Randolph and Ron Artest come to mind as NBA players that have made it who truly understand humble beginnings.

Nice to hear. Haywood isn't even filthy rich by NBA standards.
