This guy is not even a star yet or ever will be and he wants to drop his last name???

Talk about arrogance.

Wonder what name they would put on his jersey if he dropped his last name.

It's not really arrogance, it's just a personal decision. Just because Pele did it because HE was a star, doesn't mean Nene did it for the same reasons.

"Nene" will probably show up on his jersey now.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

So why would a person drop their last name???
Cause in Brazil, athletes are known to drop their last name if they are big stars. Maybe you're Brazilian. You know more. Tell us why he is dropping his name if its not because of arrogance.

Are there any NBA rules that require players to post a last name. I'm asking this question because other players could follow....opening a Pandora's Box.

Just imagine.....players posting their first name in the back of their jerseys.

the thing with asian players is that in our culture we say the last name first, then the first name

by doing so, we identify the family they are from, and then who they are in the family...

thats why when we say Yoa Ming, Ming is not his last name... Yao is... but if they jsut put Yao on the back of his jersey, people will get confused
