Cavaliers Preserving 2014 Max Cap Space For Possible Pursuit Of LeBron

Image

The Cleveland Cavaliers are positioning themselves to be able to sign a maximum contract player during the offseason of 2014, according to executives and agents around the NBA.

LeBron James is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in that offseason.

People around the NBA believe there is an increasing possibility of James returning to the Cavaliers after the 13-14 season.

James signed with the Miami Heat in the 2010 offseason to improve his odds of winning a title, but the Cavaliers have managed to acquire several promising young players as part of their rebuilding.

I don't know, seems pretty delusional and ridiculous to me. I can see LeBron wanting to finish his career in Cleveland maybe for the fans, if he wins at least 3 rings in Miami and they don't have a great future after that, but why the hell would ever want to play for Dan Gilbert again? I say maybe the fans, because they burned his jersey and called him a traitor after he carried their team his whole career, but Dan Gilbert? That letter he wrote sounding like a giant baby, saying the Cavs would win a title before LeBron, man that stuff was petty, I would never want to go back to that.

There's no way he's going back to Cleveland especially after the lashing he took from both the city and owner.

Easily. After Miami, I'd think LA would be the next best situation for him.

Miami- continuity, he's loved there like he hasn't been anywhere else, etc etc.
LA- Dwight Howard, Steve Nash, and a ton of room to build. What's not to love?
[15 other teams]
Cleveland- everyone hates him, the owner publically attacked him, what possible reason could he have to return?

Not everyone in Cleveland hates him.

There was the initial hating because it was bad break up, but now, IMO, the fans of Cleveland want to be relevant again and get back to the winning attitude and would welcome him back.

So Dan Gilbert really thinks Lebron is going to return after that nasty letter he wrote? :man10:

I don't think it is "that" far fetched.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Then they're idiots. They should really be thankful they've got a young stud on their team in Irving.

I'll gladly welcome Irving if they're not willing to give him their full love.

Well if it were me, I'd have the same attitude Chicago had in 2010: we have our guy.

That's my point.

So should we have the same attitude with D12? We have our guy.

If you have a chance to get the best or 2nd best player in the league and someone doesn't want him on your team, regardless of who you have on your team, that person isn't the brightest bulb.

... Shut up. :man10:

We're looking to compliment Howard. They should be looking to compliment Kyrie...

But that's just me. The obvious answer is I'm totally talking out of my left butt cheek. :man10:

it's not that crazy. he could repair his image almost completely and reach jordan-esque iconic status if he returned there and made good on his title promise.

if he went to la, he'd be villified all over again. not a chance that happens. my guess is he stays in miami, but cleveland would be an interesting spot if things broke down in miami.

I think there are very good chances he will go back to Cleveland to repair his image as abeer3 said ( don't forget Lebron is the type of the guy who wants to be love by everybody and cares about what people think about him).

From Cavs perspective , this is probably the only way to keep Irving for the long term ... he's not going to be fine with losing season after season ... and there is ZERO chance another big name will join him in Cleveland .

It depends on how many titles the Heat win these next two seasons and Miami ability to re-tool and keep the roster on a championship contender level ... Wade will be done after the 2013-2014 season

Heat doesn't wanna pay super tax so unless bosh and wade takes a paycut again they wont able to keep both in 2014. So Lebron will see he wont have a super team anymore and jump to another team, even cavs.

The Lakers have as a good chance to win land Bron as the Cavaliers do...which is zero. Bron and Kobe will never play together. If Kobe retires? Sure, that could absolutely happen. I don't see that happening. Pat Riley is very influential and very smart. He will do everything to keep Lebron in South Beach and will probably be successful.

I wouldn't be surprised if we could get him to play along side Dwight, he'd be a fool to go back to Cleveland and not win anything, he can add to his legacy in L.A. :man1:

not much Riley can do, that team is cap strapped for the forseable future unless they dump Bosh or Wade.
