^ Yeah, they're really trying to make a splash into relevancy.

As @ESPNSteinLine reported, Pelicans will meet with Tyreke Evans late tonight. Told they will have an offer sheet in hand--a big one.

That name is just laughable. Baddazz bird or not. The "Pelicans" we're talking about the "Pelicans". Mighty Ducks say hello.

Why are they going after positions that they already have filled? THey had Vasquez at PG and went out and got Holiday, and now they had EG at the 2 and got Evans? Doesn't make any sense....vasquez or EG have to be on their way out....

They're probably going to try to plug Evans in at SF. He has played that position on and off over the last couple seasons.

Both Evans and Holiday are upgrades.why not take them

Hearing from a trusted source that Tyreke Evans could be signing an offer sheet with the New Orleans Pelicans by as early as tonight.

Also to clarify, he would AGREE to sign the offer sheet. He couldn't officially sign until July 10. Evans meets w/ Pistons and Kings today

This could be a really bad deal for the Pelicans. According to Kings' fans the main reason for Tyreke's struggle is his lack of a true position, although most believe he should play point with his ability to get to the rim and dish when needed. I think this is too much money to offer someone who struggled heavily outside of his rookie season.

Could be worth up to $50m

Jason Jones ‏@mr_jasonjones 44m
I'm told the Evans offer sheet is worth between $44-$50 million based on incentives. Numbers not solid, but range makes sense.

I like Evans, but I'm not sure he's worth that. Jury is still out. He had to get out of Sac Town though. That's not a good spot for anyone. I think with the right coach, he could really thrive and become a hell of a player. Maybe that's just the Memphis homer in me

To clear salary for Tyreke Evans or sign-and-trade w/ Kings, Pelicans expected to try and unload Robin Lopez, league source tells Y!

Wow, the Pelicans are really moving this offseason.
Why so many guards though? Vazquez, Holiday, Gordon, Evans? Da heck?
I guess you can play Evans at the 3 though

Playing Evans at the 3 didn't work so well with the Kings, but then again nothing seems to work there. Perhaps playing with some solid wing players will help him out.

So stupid. They're overpaying at the position they're most strongest at. Lakers need to get Austin Rivers from them for a second round pick or something. They just beefed up on guards and if they're trying to get Iguodala, even more reason to get rivers.

I wonder how it's gonna work....either EG or Vasquez or BOTH need to be shipped out to shore up the SF position....I could see EG for Granger maybe....

I'll keep the second round pick. Rivers is flat out awful.

What is going on in NO though? These are some pretty poorly thought out moves IMO.

Every team in the western conference seems to be getting younger, except us.

A few things...

1) The Pelicans are making the RIGHT moves. Trading for Jrue Holiday was genius. Right now, they have too many guards. But the implication is someone is on the move, probably Eric Gordon. Austin Rivers is young and very expendable.

2) Tyreke Evans is not a small foward at 6'5". He's a combo guard. And yes, they overpaid for him based on his current production.

3. Look for the New Orleans Pelicans to be a west coast version of the Indiana Pacers in 3 years. If they keep making smart moves and Anthony Davis develops into the 22 and 11 power forward/center we all think he can be (KG 2.0) they'll be the future of the west in years to come.

It would take an unprotected first round pick or two for me to take Rivers off their hands. He's just awful, he can't play point guard and he can't shoot the ball to play shooting guard. I think he had worst PER in NBA history or something.

^He might have the worst advanced metrics i've ever seen. 5.9 PER, .431 TS%, and negative offensive win shares. This isn't based on a small sample size, he was playing 30 mpg at one point of the season. This guy is worse than Darius Morris, and sadly, that is not a joke.
