Official Kevin Love Watch

Sure Minny loves the package if it was offered but CLE makes an offer like that contingent on Love informally committing to staying around. No interest, no offer. Not worth the risk of another D12 episode.

As one person close to the situation said on Thursday, even if the Timberwolves had brought in Phil Jackson as coach, Love still would want out. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. USA Today Sports

No one will trade for Love without him signing a long term extension. So Cleveland can give all that up, for nothing a year later.

If Houston can unload one of their two atrocious contracts to another team, Howard paired with Love gets them the best 2 big men in decades really, perfect fit too.

GS would have to trade a key player or two, I don't know if they pull the trigger if Minny wants Thompson.

I don't think he goes anywhere in the off-season, wait closer to the deadline I'm thinking.

The Celtics have their eyes on bigger things, including Kevin Love. That weekend jaunt to Boston was not a coincidence. Love is eyeing the Celtics, and they are eyeing him, and Love wanted to send a message — even if it amounted to a double bird right in Minnesota’s face. Boston could deal for Love and still snag Asik for nothing. Grantland - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.naa5SrrY.dpuf

Love's a nice player. i hope he goes to the Celtics in exchange for a busload of assets. That way, Boston stays mediocre for a long time. Love is a nice player, bu not a franchise altering talent, IMO. He's awful on defense, for one. And in order to get him via trade, you have to give up too much. He's a self-cancelling acquisition.

If he's smart, he simply waits Minny out and signs for a team that still has assets. He can make up the money by winning and getting a second contract after his next one.

Glad I'm not the only one here who is not sold on Love. I still have a bitter taste from this guy's one year at UCLA. And I'm not impressed with his failure to lead his team to the playoffs. He's kind of a self centered player, IMO. I do not want to give up our 7 pick for him, not that they'd take that anyway.

Apparently Love’s agent is telling teams that Love will enter free agency next season, but financially, Love can make more money staying with the Wolves. “We can sign him to a five-year deal, the last year of his contract would be $27.5 million,” Saunders said. “Anybody that is his number of years serviced in the league, that’s what their contract is. To go sign as a free agent anywhere else, he can only sign for four years, so you’re not getting that fifth year.” Minneapolis Star-Tribune

We're all too familiar with this as Lakers fans and Dwight; LOL. I don't think Love is as dense as Dwight, though...he wouldn't give up that extra year of his contract and ultimately turn down $27.5 million dollars which is why I think he'll be traded to a team he desires where he can opt in not missing out on his bird rights.

Now, we'll say worst case scenario he stays in Minnesota this year, (which is very slim) he does have the option of entering free agency and doing exactly what Dwight did...signed a 3 year deal worth around 20 million, opt out of the 3rd year, and then sign a Max deal with your current team. As I said, very slim, and at this point, I think Kevin is as good as gone...

Oh I absolutely think he'll do what Dwight did, but he'll make the smarter decision. He'll go to either a place where he can win (Chicago, maybe Golden State) or he'll go to place where they can build a winner and he can make up his money in endorsements (LA, maybe Boston, NY).

Either way, I think we're still in this mix unless he gets traded to Houston or something like that. Houston has a unique chance to jump into the contenders pool if they play their cards right. Dwight and Love make a lot of sense together if Coward can put aside just an ounce of pride.

That would be our only chance, Real. Or he could go to a place like Sacramento where they will take him without him signing an extension; he doesn't like it, and he leaves, thus making him an FA and giving ourselves a chance to grab him. It's possible. I'd hate to be Minnesota, though, and get absolutely nothing out of any deal watching Kevin leave...

Minnesota HAS to deal him now. They're finished. It just comes down to whether or not they let this thing drag out or just do it right away. I'm inclined to think they'll want to move him by the draft honestly, but the question is where he'll go.

Any team doing this is taking a HUGE chance. There's every possibility that the Lakers build a team this summer that is intriguing to a young, talented player that wants a big market. If that happens a guy like Love in a city like Sacramento? Yeah he's gone. Boston might have a shot at keeping him through a rebuild, but I doubt it. The Warriors have a shot at keeping him. Houston has a shot at keeping him.

All that being said... if he goes to any of those three places, I don't think those teams win. Houston has the best chance, but I still think they fall short. Maybe I'm just biased though.

Although Gasol did make it to the playoffs, he never won a playoff game until he got to the Lakers. He wasn't known for his defense, although being 7 ft did help.

But like any player, they thrive in different situations. Minnesota isn't that situation for Love. Memphis was no the situation for Pau.

What needs to happen is Kevin Squared 2016.

I think Kevin Love would thrive in a secondary role rather than a primary role. I think, like Gasol, he's being asked to do things outside his comfort zone, and it's really taking away from his true strength in his game, which is already strong in it's own right.

Durant NEEDS to be the number one man. He needs the ball in his hands, and he needs to build his assertiveness. Playing with Westbrook allows Kevin to be passive sometimes, and I think that takes away from his fluidity/rhythm. Each have their moments, but each need to be in their own moment.

Don't think Durant and Love would be a good match.
Love and D12 is a better match.

Love and Asik is also a better match. That little item about Celtics getting Asik to pair with Love made me sit up and take notice as Asik is pretty good at the defensive end and could cover up for Love's deficiencies at that end of the floor whereas Durant cannot. Love, Asik and Rondo not a bad 3-some. Throw in another shooter at the 2 plus an athletic slasher type at the 3 and though I don't know if that's good enough to contend for Finals, they could be a decent playoff team.

Dwight / Asik are 3rd option type guys imo. They can't create their own shot and are one dimensional offensively.

Yes, you need to pair a defensive center next to Love, but I'm talking about 1/2.

The ideal pairing for Love would be with Howard...Ryan Anderson had a career year getting all those open looks in Orlando; when you combine that with Harden drawing multiple defenders when he penetrates or even or pick in rolls with Love, now you're talking...add in another SF (assuming Parson is gone via S&T to Minnesota) who can defend the perimeter and Houston is looking good...

IF Howard and Love can resolve their egos to make that work. I think Love could, but it would be grating to work with a guy like him. Harden is basically the same person too so now you're talking about two of the most selfish players on the same team with another superstar.

That's why I don't think they'd win a Championship there. Too many mouths to feed that think they deserve more than they do.

Min has seen the light that we didn't in the Howard fiasco. They are selling rather than risking it with Love.

Love is pushing for the trade so he doesn't have to take a year less to leave. So.... where ever he gets traded is where he will stay. He's not Howard stupid..... or scared is probably a better word....

Since we have Marshall and Sacre to trade we'll have to watch him on the opposing bench for the rest of his career it seems.

I'm probably in the minority (and apologize ahead of time for semi-hijacking this thread), but why aren't more people higher on Asik? This guy is a PRESENCE on D and on the boards. Frankly, given his willingness to play within his skill-set, I think he's as effective a player, if not more effective, than D12.

Chicago was a budding monster when they had both Asik and Noah. That's a nice FC tandem to throw at people.

I think people overstate the small-ball era stuff. Imagine Asik on the Heat or with OKC. That becomes a monster team.

Yeah, I like Asik a lot as well. I'd love to have him on the Lakers. Whoever gets him for cheap from HOU will get a hell of a starting center, as long as they have sufficient offense around him. With Dwight there, some people have forgotten just how good Asik was when the Bulls let him go.
